Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Agriculture Librarian – Funk ACES Library Open Ranked Faculty, University Library University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign   Position Available: The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. This is a 100% twelve-month, tenure-system appointment.   Position Description: The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Library seeks a dynamic and collaborative individual to serve as the Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Agriculture Librarian.  The successful candidate will contribute to innovative and inclusive services in the Funk ACES (Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences) Library.   Reporting to the Head of the Funk ACES Library, the Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Agriculture Librarian will serve as the University Library’s liaison to the departments of Landscape Architecture and Urban & Regional Planning within the College of Fine and Applied Arts, and will be responsible for collection development, instruction, research consultations, and outreach to support those departments. This position will also serve as the liaison to one or two departments within the College of ACES, providing support through instructional, research consultation, and outreach services.   In addition, this candidate will serve as the supervisor for the Funk ACES Library’s Graduate Assistants (GAs), responsible for GA hiring and management, and will work collaboratively with other Funk librarians on GA training, mentoring, and projects.   The University Library of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign values diversity of thought, perspective, experience and people, and is actively committed to a culture of inclusion and respect. • Serves as the subject specialist for landscape architecture and urban and regional planning, and performs collection development and manages funds earmarked for these subjects, including gift/endowment funds.
• Depending on unit needs and qualifications of the successful candidate, serves as the subject specialist for one or two departments in the College of ACES
• Working closely with the unit head, serves as the Graduate Assistant (GA) Supervisor for Funk ACES Library, responsible for hiring and managing GAs and coordinating their unit-specific training and project assignments.
• Working collaboratively with library colleagues, contribute to Library-wide information, instruction and research support services, including support for research data management, scholarly communication, etc.
• Participates in public services and other user-focused activities as part of the Funk ACES Library, including reference services, outreach and engagement initiatives.
• Contributes to the national and international reputation of the University Library through professional research, service and collaboration with national colleagues and organizations.

  Qualifications Required:  

• Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent
• At least one year of experience working in an academic or research library
• Supervisory experience
• Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with others in a team environment
• Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with all elements of an academically and culturally diverse community
• Preparation and commitment to conduct independent scholarship consistent with a tenure-track faculty appointment and indications of ability to meet the promotion and tenure requirements of the University

  Preferred:  

• Educational background or work experience in landscape architecture, urban & regional planning, or a related discipline
• Experience teaching in workshop or classroom settings
• Experience with collection development/management
• Experience assessing library public services or programs

    Environment: The Funk ACES Library is in a beautiful, distinctive building that opened in 2001.  It serves as the hub library for life sciences on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus and is closely linked with the Veterinary Medicine Library. The Funk ACES Library serves the students, faculty, and staff in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES); the School of Integrative Biology; the School of Molecular and Cellular Biology; the Department of Landscape Architecture; the Department of Urban and Regional Planning; the Prairie Research Institute; and the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology.  The current staff includes 4 librarians, 5 staff, and 6 graduate assistants from the School of Information Sciences.   Salary and Rank: Salary commensurate with credentials and experience. Librarians have faculty rank, and must demonstrate excellence in librarianship, research, and university/professional/community service in order to meet university standards for tenure and promotion. Library faculty have an obligation to remain professionally informed, to pursue the discovery of new knowledge related to their field of expertise, to disseminate the results of their scholarly work, and to seek opportunities for service to the Library, campus, state, nation and profession. Library faculty are governed by University statements on review and promotion found in Article IX of the Statutes, and in Provost’s Communication No. 9 and Provost’s Communication No. 13 .
