Interlibrary Loan Services provides interlibrary borrowing and document delivery to LSU patrons, and interlibrary lending to other libraries nationally and internationally as part of our resource sharing agreements. The Resource Sharing Specialist will collaborate with other interlibrary loan staff to ensure the timely processing and receipt of requests on both the borrowing and lending sides of interlibrary loan. They will also serve as back-up for document delivery duties when necessary. Job Responsibilities: 35% Processes interlibrary borrowing requests (requests initiated by LSU faculty, staff, and students.) Performs advanced bibliographic verification of requests using a variety of LSU Libraries' resources and other online tools. Process requests in a timely manner, assuring they are handled the same day received when possible. Solves problems with ILL software and processes patron renewals. Corresponds with local patrons and with lending institutions to resolve citation issues and to coordinate complex requests. 35% Processes interlibrary lending requests (requests initiated by other libraries). Performs advanced bibliographic searching and verification and interprets non-English language citations. Prepares and ships requested items daily, assuring that non-specialized requests are handled the same day. Corresponds with borrowing libraries to resolve citation issues and to coordinate complex requests. 10% Processes lending invoices, blocks delinquent libraries, and processes and sends lost-item invoices. Assists patrons with interlibrary loan questions at the Access Services desk and on the telephone. Resolves complex problems presented by library users that may involve enforcing/making exceptions to library policy and procedures. Edits and updates the Lending manual on a regular basis. 10% Locates, records and classifies access issues for local electronic resources. Identifies discrepancies between library catalog and electronic holdings, and between local holdings and the OCLC database. Identifies issues between library search engines and the ILL patron interface. Provides input and feedback about other library search tools as needed. 10% Manages document delivery services in the absence of the Borrowing and Document Delivery Specialist, including the processing, verification, and fulfillment of incoming requests; delivers scanned items electronically. Assists department head with special projects. Keeps up-to-date with current trends associated with resource sharing and staff development by attending conferences and other training opportunities. Minimum Qualifications: Education Level: Bachelor's Years of Experience: One to three years related library experience or relevant work experience. Specific Experience: Strong computer skills and multitasking skills; ability to use Microsoft Office software. Preferred Qualifications: Specific Experience: Experience working in a library; coursework in library science; experience with interlibrary loan procedures.
