Texas A&M University Libraries seeks a creative and dynamic professional to join the Texas A&M University Libraries as Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Librarian.  We are hiring one individual for a full-time position with an 11-month academic appointment beginning November 25, 2019.  This is an open-track faculty search allowing applicants to indicate a preference for either a tenure-track/tenured position with research and service expectations or a non-tenure track position with professional service expectations.   Depending on qualifications, applicants for tenure-track/tenured positions will be considered for the faculty titles of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.   Similarly, applicants for non-tenure track positions will be considered for the faculty titles of Instructional Assistant Professor, Instructional Associate Professor, Instructional Professor. Reporting to the Dean through the Director of the Medical Sciences Library and under the guidance of the Medical Sciences Library Assistant Director, this position provides liaison services to the students, researchers, and faculty of Texas A&M University with an emphasis on the undergraduate and graduate biomedical sciences programs (BIMS) at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVM). This position serves as one of the liaisons to CVM and is part of a dynamic library team.  The undergraduate BIMS program has the largest undergraduate population at the university and focuses on preparing pre-professional students for professional school including medicine, veterinary medicine, and nursing.  The graduate program emphasizes biomedical research and offers masters and doctoral degrees. In addition CVM houses a highly ranked clinical veterinary (DVM) program including a full veterinary teaching hospital.  Responsibilities include developing and delivering instructional programs, working with faculty to plan and develop curriculum-integrated content, providing reference and research support, and participating in collection development for designated collection areas. Tenure-track responsibilities include engaging in research activities leading to publications and national service to meet both the Libraries’ and the University’s requirements for tenure and promotion.   Non-tenure track responsibilities include engaging in professional service at multiple levels with demonstrated national impact.   • Master’s Degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution (or international equivalent)
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service
  • Experience working successfully with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and teamwork skills complemented by the ability to take initiative

  • Library experience
  • Experience working in a biomedical, health, life, or veterinary sciences library setting
  • Public services experience (information, reference, liaison, instruction)
  • Experience using biomedical, life, and health sciences resources
  • Experience designing and delivering instructional programs
  • Collection development experience
  • Knowledge of technologies for instruction and collaboration
  • Knowledge of evidence based practice
  • Knowledge of scholarly communications and faculty metrics
  • Evidence of effective collaboration and teamwork
  • Membership in the Medical Library Association’s  Academy of Health Information Professionals
Salary/Benefits: Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience; minimum starting salary will be $50,500. Excellent benefits include health plan and paid life insurance; several retirement plans including TIAA; paid holidays; no state or local income tax. Funding is provided for professional travel and development activities.
