Reporting to the Director of Special Collections, the Special Collections Public Services Librarian is responsible for developing, administering, and overseeing all public service operations; creating policies and procedures; and overseeing staffing of the Paulson Reading Room in Special Collections & University Archives (SCUA). The Librarian oversees and coordinates responses to reference questions via email, phone, fax, and letters, as well as patron-driven requests for duplication and permissions. The Public Services Librarian oversees loan requests, works with curators and outside units or institutions to contract loans for exhibits, coordinates with curators in communications from potential donors, provides tours and talks about relevant collections, teaches sessions on primary source literacy, and selects appropriate materials for the SCUA reference collection. The Librarian also participates in professional development activities and organizations to stay current with trends and practices in the field and to meet criteria for promotion and retention. The Librarian contributes to the University’s goals regarding equity and inclusion.
