University of California, Santa Barbara Search for the Associate University Librarian for Research Resources and Scholarly Communication Santa Barbara, California The University of California, Santa Barbara (UC Santa Barbara), a top-ranked public research institution, seeks an inspiring leader to serve as Associate University Librarian (AUL) for Research Resources and Scholarly Communication. This is a distinctive opportunity to provide leadership in support of research and unique collections at UC Santa Barbara and the University of California’s strategic leadership in transforming scholarly communication. As part of the Library’s senior administrative group, the AUL will work closely with the University Librarian (UL), Deputy UL, and AULs for Learning and Engagement and Digital Strategies. The Research Resources and Scholarly Communication division is comprised of Collection Strategies; Content Management Services; Special Research Collections; and Scholarly Communication. In this role, the AUL will design strategic and analytic approaches to development of the Library’s collections and access to scholarly resources. In line with the principles of UC Santa Barbara and the University of California system, the AUL will develop programming and budget strategies in support of open science, digital humanities, and open access publishing. The UC Santa Barbara Library is the geographic and academic heart of the campus and holds a collection of approximately 3.2 million volumes; over 4,000 manuscript and archival collections; and more than 350,000 audio recordings. The Library is particularly well-renowned for the Discography of American Historical Recordings early sound recording collection, the California Ethnic & Multicultural Archives, the American Religions Collection, and historic California aerial photos. The Library serves over 2.5 million visitors per year, and the website has over 1 million sessions annually. The Library’s annual expenditures are approximately $20 million, with approximately 170 staff.
