Assistant Professor & Reference and Liaison Librarian (STEM)

The University Library of the University of Illinois at Chicago invites you to apply for a tenure-track position in the Research Services and Resources (RSR) Department of the Richard J. Daley Library. Under the direction of the Head of RSR, the Reference and Liaison Librarian will be the Library’s primary point of contact with faculty, staff, and students in the College of Engineering and two departments in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences: Mathematics, Statistics, & Computer Science and Physics.  Liaisons support their academic units by using innovative approaches to develop relevant Library collections, design curriculum-integrated instruction for a multi-cultural learning community, and support faculty and student research.  As a member of the RSR team, the successful candidate will also support general reference and instruction programming for first-year student success across disciplines. This tenure-track appointment includes the expectation that the faculty member will be actively engaged in and significantly contribute to the profession through research/scholarship and service related to professional and scholarly interests.  This includes publication, presentation, and committee work at various levels.   Expectations are further outlined in the norms for tenure-track appointments.  Support for scholarship and professional development including funding, research leave, and mentoring are provided to help candidates be successful. Duties as a liaison to the College of Engineering and Departments of Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science and Physics include: Design instruction and provide curricular support for targeted courses in each unit Conduct one-on-one research consultations Develop and manage collections in assigned areas Advocate for the research and curricular needs of faculty, students, and staff in assigned academic units Promote the library’s initiatives such as research data management, open access and scholarly communication as appropriate Participate in outreach to both the UIC campus and the community about the Library’s services, resources and programs   General reference and instruction duties include: Research support and information services in person and virtually Course-integrated instruction and general workshops Development of online instructional materials (e.g. tutorials, research guides, integrating library services into Blackboard) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program Two years’ experience in an academic library or equivalent experience in higher education Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity in communication, teaching, collection development, and collaboration with diverse groups and individuals Interest in science & technology librarianship Awareness of trends and issues in STEM education Ability to meet the requirements in scholarly research and publication, professional service and librarianship commensurate with a tenure system appointment at UIC SALARY/RANK/CONTRACT: The minimum salary for a full-time twelve-month tenure track appointment is $65,000.  Benefits for a twelve month appointment include 24 days vacation; 12 days annual sick leave with additional disability benefits; 11 paid holidays; medical insurance (contribution based on annual salary; coverage for dependents may be purchased); two dental plans available; life insurance paid for by the State; participation in one of the retirement options of the State Universities Retirement System compulsory (8% of salary is withheld and is tax exempt until withdrawal); no Social Security coverage, but Medicare payment is required. This appointment is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois and UIC United Faculty Local 6456, IFT-AFT, AAUP.
