Position Summary The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks an innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented individual for the role of Graphic and Design Skills Librarian. Working with a team of media and design staff at the Media Resources Center in the R. B. House Undergraduate Library, this individual will play a role in the University Libraries ongoing mission to impact student success by providing digital literacy services and media and design instruction. This Librarian joins a team dedicated to teaching emerging scholars to approach research with confidence, creativity, and critical insight, empowering them to access, critically evaluate, and use information to create and distribute their own research in a technologically evolving environment. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the role of a 21st century library in connecting students to the collections, services, and expertise found in libraries. This librarian will help develop and deliver design instruction and related services, explore technologies supporting undergraduate education, and participate in instruction and outreach initiatives. This position reports to the Head of the Media Resources Center.

Educational Requirements ALA-accredited MIS, MLS, or other advanced relevant degree, such as a Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Journalism, Media Arts, Communications, Graphic Design.

Qualifications and Experience REQUIRED Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • ALA-accredited MIS, MLS, or other advanced relevant degree, such as a Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Journalism, Media Arts, Communications, Graphic Design.
  • Strong public service orientation and commitment to empowering a diverse student, staff, and faculty community
  • Ability to provide excellent user-centered consultation service
  • Demonstrated applied experience providing technology instruction
  • Demonstrated applied relevant experience working with web development technologies (HTML, CSS and content management systems such as WordPress), digital design software (particularly the Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator), and graphic design principles.
  • Knowledge of emerging instructional technologies
  • Knowledge of digital literacy concepts

PREFERRED Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning
  • Mastery and applied use of the Adobe Creative Cloud including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator; WordPress; and graphic design principles.
