General Description Within the Archives & Rare Books (ARB) Library, coordinates the maintenance, retrieval and re-shelving of archival materials and rare books in Blegen Library and offsite storage facilities. Manages the ordering and payment process for copies and images of the collection materials. Coordinates the digitization of materials. Uses the web-based archives information management system, ArchivesSpace to maintain collection location information and to create finding aids. This position is a full-time, three (3) year term appointment with a comprehensive benefits package. The annual salary range for this position is $39,500-$45,000, which includes a 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday.

Relationship and Authority: Reports to and receives directions from the Head and University Archivist, Archives & Rare Books Library. Supervises student assistants.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage retrievals and re-shelving of archival materials and rare books, including in Blegen Library and may require additional travel to offsite storage facilities.
  • Perform regular stacks maintenance and arrange cleaning as necessary.
  • Compile a survey of media in archival collections and conduct shelf reading of library stacks.
  • Manage orders and payment for images and copies of collection materials.
  • Assess formats and condition of materials and coordinate treatment scheduling with the Preservation Lab. Participate in ARB’s regular meetings with the Preservation Lab.
  • Coordinate special digitization projects including the William Lawrence Irish Theatre Notebooks with the Preservation Lab and the Digital Content and Repository Services Department.
  • Utilize ArchivesSpace to maintain archival collection location information and to assist in the creation of finding aids as necessary.
  • Develop student assistant training materials.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with one (1) year experience; -OR- Associate’s degree with three (3) years’ experience; -OR- five (5) years’ experience.
  • Degree and experience must be related to position specifications as outlined in the job posting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MLS, Master of Archival Studies, or equivalent degree.
  • One-year experience in a library, archive, or a museum setting.
  • Familiarity with archival handling, preservation, arrangement, and description.
  • Experience managing and executing detailed projects.
