San Diego State University (SDSU), a dynamic national public research university, seeks an innovative and energetic leader to serve as Dean of Library.
The SDSU Library (the Library) is deeply committed to information literacy, lifelong learning, and research and creative endeavors in a welcoming and collaborative environment. The Library has a collection of nearly two million physical items that includes monographs, media, and journal volumes, provides access to numerous electronic resources and offers a variety of user-focused services, including over 600 public workstations, a computing hub, electronic classrooms, a digital humanities center and a makerspace designed to foster creativity and innovation. Special Collections and University Archives holds over 80,000 printed volumes, over 500 manuscripts and archival collections, 800 linear feet of university records, numerous graphic and ephemera collections, and digital collections.
Founded in 1897, San Diego State University began operating as the San Diego Normal School, a training facility for elementary school teachers. A member of The California State University system since its inception in 1960, SDSU has grown to become a leading public research university. With over 34,000 students, SDSU is committed to providing its students with a transformational college experience. Faculty and staff are deeply invested in creating social mobility pathways and providing resources that help graduate a large first generation, underrepresented student population who go on to become future global citizens, compassionate leaders and ethical innovators around the world. The dean is the chief administrative officer for the Library, and reports to the provost and senior vice president and serves as a member of the Academic Deans Council. The dean must be a person who can lead energetically and with vision, and who has a substantial record of personal excellence related to the oversight and management of all aspects of library operations, including budget, personnel, facilities, technology, policy development, instruction, fundraising and co-curricular programming.
