Instruction Librarian University of Houston Libraries https://libraries.uh.edu/about/employment/instruction-librarian/   The University of Houston seeks a creative, learner-focused Instruction Librarian to join the Instruction Team within the Liaison Services Department. The Instruction Team’s approach to teaching is rooted in learner-centered pedagogy and critical inquiry, with the intent of cultivating inclusive learning environments. Our focus is on teaching transferable information literacy concepts and abilities that are essential to critical thinking.   As a member of the Instruction Team, the Instruction Librarian will contribute significantly to the development, teaching, and assessment of undergraduate face-to-face and online information literacy programs. This includes the creation of lesson plans, learning activities, assignments, online learning videos, self-paced online lessons, and formative assessments. The librarian will also collaborate with subject librarians and functional specialists to enhance information literacy and research education within academic departments at the undergraduate and graduate levels through targeted, curricular integration. This librarian will contribute to the Instruction Team’s mentoring and training of teaching librarians on face-to-face and online instruction and assessment methods.   Other responsibilities include liaising with academic support units and leading Instruction Team initiatives. The Instruction Librarian will have opportunities for mentorship and training in job responsibilities, and will have the opportunity to build skills for leading programs and initiatives. The position reports to the Coordinator of Instruction.   The Instruction Librarian is a librarian position. Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Librarians’ Bylaws Document. They are expected to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional development. The UH Libraries support the ongoing professional development of librarians and seek to recruit individuals committed to continuous learning and growth. Appointment to this position is contingent on the results of a completed criminal history records investigation.   Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in and out of the library
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Interest, coursework or experience in teaching information literacy
  • Engagement with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education
  Preferred Qualifications:
  • Classroom teaching experience
  • Aptitude for learning new technologies
  • Knowledge of pedagogical approaches or learning theory
