GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Coordinator for Multimedia Equipment Lending at Langsam Library performs intermediate to complex level library and customer support activities for the multimedia equipment and technology collection. Provide necessary training to faculty, staff and student for multimedia equipment users. Develops online learning objects, materials and documentation about multimedia equipment and other areas for faculty, staff, and student users, as well as library staff and student assistants. Provides public service support at The Desk @ Langsam. Assists with student supervision. Develops, communicates, organizes, implements, and evaluates services and resources. This position is a three (3) year term appointment.


RELATIONSHIP AND AUTHORITY: Reports to and receives general direction from the Assistant Department Head of Research, Teaching and Services Department (RTS). Assists with student employee supervision.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Functions as lead staff person in the RTS department for matters relating to the lending of multimedia equipment at The Desk @ Langsam, performing intermediate to complex level library support activities and tasks and providing leadership to other staff and student assistants.
  • Plan, develop and deploy training materials, sessions and programs related to technology lending. This includes physical materials and presentations, online materials and presentations, audio visual tutorials and guides, instructional videos and sessions, info graphic resources and other technologies.
  • Serves as the primary staff person for all lending equipment issues, including inventory and billing. Collaborates with staff in Library IT as needed, including to update and/or repair hardware. Consults with Assistant Department Heads of RTS on matters relating to delinquent patron accounts and their multimedia equipment and technology privileges. Assists college and departmental libraries with policies, procedures and training related to multimedia equipment and technology lending.
  • Develops online learning objects, materials and documentation about multimedia equipment, as well as other areas, for faculty, staff, and student users, as well as library staff and student assistants.
  • Creates detailed online guides and instructional materials for the equipment lending collection. Maintains versions for in-house and public use.
  • Investigates and shares ideas on possible new hardware for lending by UCL. Advises and participates in the selection of items for equipment lending.
  • Provides public service at The Desk @ Langsam Library as part of the RTS Department on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrates exemplary customer service. Works to resolve issues with library users. Utilizes thorough knowledge of the University of Cincinnati Library (UCL) policies and procedures to effectively address concerns of library users. Assists users with their reference and research needs.
  • Functionally serves as building supervisor; opens service point, troubleshoots problems relating to facilities, building safety, UCLID and library computer network.
  • Directs and monitors the work of all student assistants scheduled at this time to ensure that department workflow is maintained.
  • Assists the student supervisor for RTS with the hiring, training and daily supervision of student assistants. Provides daily oversight of student assistant work in and around The Desk @ Langsam Library, including but not limited to the supervision of daily workflows, departmental projects and customer service situations.
  • Works in conjunction with the student supervisor to provide continuous training and development for student assistants in the form of training sessions, weekly exercises and other assessment tools.
  • Works in conjunction with the student supervisor and other staff to create online learning tools for student training.
  • Assists with special projects within the responsibilities of the Research, Teaching & Services Department. Assists librarians on a project-by-project basis as assigned by the Assistant Head or the Head of Research, Teaching & Services.
  • Attends project team meetings, departmental meetings, divisional meetings and other meetings as assigned. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with one (1) year experience; -OR- Associate’s degree with three (3) years’ experience; -OR- five (5) years’ experience.
  • Degree and experience must be related to position specifications as outlined in the job posting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Public service experience; demonstrated commitment to excellence in customer service and creativity in problem solving.
  • Experience with an online integrated circulation system.
  • Experience supervising student/part-time employees.
  • Excellent oral, written communication, instruction, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of digital media production principles, methods, techniques, and standards. Demonstrated experience with multimedia hardware.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 

  • Based on the nature of this position, the university is unable to provide sponsorship for work visas.
  • This position will require the incumbent to lift materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
