Wilson Distinguished Professorship Vacancy ID: FAC0003109 Position Summary The School of Information and Library Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (SILS) invites nominations and applications for the Louis Round Wilson Distinguished Professorship, a tenured, full professor, appointment. Established through Dr. Wilson’s estate, this distinguished professorship continues a strong legacy of librarianship. As UNC’s first librarian, and SILS founder and first dean, there have been few individuals who have left a bigger mark on the UNC campus, the state of North Carolina, and librarian profession than Dr. Wilson. We seek a dynamic senior leader to join us in shaping the future of librarianship and archival practice, including the roles these institutions and staff will play in empowering marginalized voices, bringing communities together, and understanding the constantly changing impacts that memory and new knowledge have on our society. Our internationally renowned programs educate leaders who shape information policy and inspire junior scholars to new directions in research and practice. We seek a senior researcher and thought leader who will help the faculty define new research and curriculum directions, mentor junior faculty, and serve as a voice for ethical and human-centered approaches to data-driven information models and services. Our campus provides myriad opportunities for collaboration with scholars across the university system, with the campus Libraries and Information Technology Services, and with researchers from nearby universities. The School offers the Bachelor of Science in Information Science, Master of Science in Library Science, Master of Science in Information Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. The School also offers an undergraduate minor in information science, a Post-Master’s Certificate in data curation, and a variety of graduate certificates and dual degrees (see http://sils.unc.edu for details), and a non-residential Master of Professional Science degree in digital curation. Educational Requirements An earned doctorate in Library Science, Information Science, or related field is required at the time of employment. Candidates should provide evidence of research and teaching excellence and leadership at national and international levels. Qualifications and Experience Faculty are expected to engage in research, teach, advise students, participate in School, University, and professional activities, and otherwise share their expertise at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including work with doctoral students. Candidates should be excited by and able to thrive in an intellectually stimulating multi-disciplinary environment. We seek a collaborative colleague who will form partnerships within the school and across the campus. Scholars with fresh and innovative ideas, a commitment to professional engagement, and an appreciation for cultural diversity are encouraged to apply.
