University Libraries comprises Lied Library and four branch libraries and we are a gateway to more than 80,000 electronic journals, 1.2 million volumes, and 1.4 million e-books. ROLE of the POSITION

UNLV University Libraries seeks a collaborative and creative librarian who is ready to share expertise in information literacy, instructional design, and student outreach to serve as a Teaching and Learning Librarian. Reporting to the Head of Educational Initiatives, the Teaching and Learning Librarian will join an innovative and collaborative team that supports undergraduate learning, online education, co-curricular outreach to students, and faculty development. The Teaching and Learning Librarian will collaborate with faculty and staff in the library and across the university to design tools and learning experiences that enhance lessons in information literacy and critical thinking delivered to UNLV students. The incumbent will participate in the planning, development, and assessment of the Libraries' instruction services. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to work in a complex, changing environment with flexibility and creativity. The incumbent will be able to share examples of working effectively with a group towards accomplishing goals such as in department, division, campus, and committee meetings with students, staff, faculty, and administration. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable of inclusive pedagogies and instruction practices in order to engage students who are historically underrepresented and underserved in traditional academic libraries.  

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with liaison librarians to develop undergraduate instruction for specific disciplines that support the first-year experience.
• Coordinate and manage the annual Lance and Elena Calvert Award for Undergraduate Research.
• Participate directly in the development, provision, and assessment of curriculum-integrated instruction sessions, including but not limited to those for first-year programs and other targeted courses in the campus undergraduate curriculum.
• Participate in planning, developing, marketing, implementing and evaluating instructional service program activities offered by UNLV Libraries.
• Contribute to ongoing assessment of student learning within the Educational Initiatives department, and collaboratively develop new assessment projects that meet departmental goals.
• Provide research and technology assistance through individual and small group consultations both in person and online.
• Keep current with trends and developments in educational technology applications and tools that support and enhance learning.
• Participate in outreach efforts to promote the UNLV Libraries to campus stakeholders for the Research and Education Division.
• Participate in the activities of the Research and Education Division and contribute significantly to the planning, development and assessment of the Division's policies and services.
• Participate in faculty governance activities, including attending faculty meetings, voting on bylaws changes, voting in other faculty elections, and serving on committees when elected or appointed.
• Keep current with trends and developments in assigned areas of responsibility and the field of librarianship.
• As a faculty member, the incumbent will be expected to engage in scholarly activities and to provide service to the university, community, and profession in accordance with UNLV and UNLV Libraries standards for promotion and tenure.

 QUALIFICATIONS

• This position requires an earned Master's Degree in library or information science from an American Library Association accredited program by the date of appointment. Required
• Competence and sensitivity in working with individuals who are highly diverse regarding many facets of identity, including but not limited to gender, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, ability, income, level of educational attainment, and religion.
• Recent experience or course work in information literacy instruction.
• Demonstrated competence in using current technologies and best practices in the creative design and delivery of instruction.
• Familiarity with information literacy theory, practice, and assessment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Evidence of commitment to professional growth.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

 Preferred

• Experience teaching in a higher education setting, including designing lesson plans and assessment tools.
• Experience developing engaging orientations, student support activities, or other co-curricular outreach to students.
• Experience coordinating awards or other programs that recognize outstanding research.
• Experience participating in efforts that promote, elevate, or grow student research activities.

 SALARY RANGE This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track/tenured faculty position at the rank of Assistant (Rank II, tenure-track) or Associate Professor (Rank III, tenure-track/tenure). Starting salary is $65,000. Salary is competitive with those at similarly situated institutions and dependent upon labor market. Position is contingent upon funding.
