The Cartographic Metadata Librarian enables discovery and access to the University of Georgia Libraries’ collections of cartographic materials in all formats and languages, including those held outside of the Map and Government Information Library, by creating and enhancing catalog records according to national and international standards. The person in this position will also assist library users with identifying and locating materials as needed. The Cartographic Metadata Librarian reports to the Head of the Map and Government Information Library.

The Map and Government Information Library is Georgia’s designated regional depository for U.S. federal documents and the official depository for State of Georgia government publications; it is also home to one of the largest academic map collections in the country and the ASERL Center of Excellence for maps. Taken together, the map and government documents collections consist of approximately 1.7 million tangible items and over 3 million microforms. The Map and Government Information Library consists of a Head, 3 FTE faculty librarians, and 3 FTE staff members plus student assistants.
