The University of Georgia Libraries seeks an experienced and innovative developer to serve as  a Lead GALILEO/GIL Developer. The Lead Developer reports to the GALILEO / GIL Development Manager and is responsible for architecting, developing, implementing and maintaining software systems in support of GALILEO, GIL (GALILEO Interconnected Libraries) and DLG (Digital Library of Georgia) services. Programming responsibilities also include replacing or modernizing older applications. The GALILEO/GIL Programmer/Analyst is needed to consult with other team members and stakeholders, particularly in the area of legacy applications. This position is also responsible for mentoring and providing general design guidance to others on the team, and for ensuring that they are adhering to the software quality standards agreed upon so that work is done to the highest possible quality. GALILEO stands for GeorgiA LIbrary LEarning Online, an initiative of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. GALILEO is an online library portal to authoritative, subscription-only information. GALILEO includes more than 2000 institutions among them are the universities and colleges of the University System of Georgia and Technical College System of Georgia along with Georgia K-12 schools and public libraries. GIL stands for GALILEO Interconnected Libraries, the integrated library management system for acquiring, cataloging, accessing, and circulating the collections of the USG institutions. GIL uses Ex Libris’ Alma integrated library system software, which is hosted in the cloud by Ex Libris. In addition to library catalogs and services for each library, each institution has access to a “union” view, with the holdings of all GIL participants. Through this Primo “view”, GIL Express requesting (borrowing books from another USG library) is initiated. GIL applications support staff are located at UGA (supporting all USG institutions).
