Cornell University’s Catherwood Library invites diverse applications for the position of Assistant Director. We are seeking a collaborative, flexible, and innovative individual to lead and develop services primarily geared toward Cornell’s ILR School focused on broad, interdisciplinary fields centered around the study of labor and employment in the US and abroad. Reporting to the Oxman Director of Catherwood Library, the Assistant Director will lead and participate in the day-to-day collection development, instruction, and research support in Catherwood’s Research and Learning Services department, consisting of four librarians and two staff positions. The incumbent serves on Catherwood’s leadership group participating in strategic planning and decision-making and works closely with their peers in Catherwood and across Cornell University Library. Required Qualifications: • A postgraduate degree in a relevant subject (e.g. MLS/MLIS, Labor Studies, or similar); • 6 or more years of professional library experience, preferably in an academic setting; • Demonstrated ability to cultivate an inclusive work environment as well as lead and develop inclusive services, particularly focused on diversity, equity, anti-racism or social justice; • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and cooperatively with others; • Demonstrated success in leading and motivating others; • Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple simultaneous demands, and meet deadlines; • Ability to think creatively and strategically, and to communicate that vision; • Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, organizational, and presentation skills; • A history of scholarship and professional activity. Preferred Qualifications: • Supervisory experience; • Experience working and subject knowledge in the subject areas of Labor and Employment (e.g. Human resource studies, labor law, international labor, organizational behavior, labor economics, social statistics or labor history). The anticipated academic rank for this position is Associate Librarian, with an anticipated salary range of $70,000-$85,000. Relocation assistance may be provided.
