LSU Libraries Job Location: Louisiana Date Created: 06-03-2021

Reporting to the Head of Special Collections Technical Services, the Cataloging Associate performs copy cataloging of monographs and other printed materials, catalogs Louisiana state documents received through the Louisiana Public Document Depository Program, and creates metadata for digitization projects. The incumbent also provides public services at Special Collections service points and performs other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities:

50% Edits MARC catalog records utilizing knowledge of standards including RDA, LCSH, NAF, LC classification, and other appropriate thesauri and authority lists used for descriptive and subject cataloging of books, serials, visual materials, cartographic materials, music scores, and audio-visual materials.

25% Catalogs Louisiana state documents received through the Louisiana Public Document Depository Program; verifies receipt of documents against monthly shipping lists; requests publications not received; and offers duplicate state documents to other public educational institutions in the state.

15% Performs original and complex description of digitized materials by creating or enhancing metadata records, which involves both accurate descriptive cataloging and the assigning of appropriate Library of Congress subject headings.

10% Staffs departmental service points as a primary contact/reference person for patrons using Special Collections. Interprets and enforces library policies for the security and administration of the collections. Performs other duties as assigned.

The ideal incumbent will have a high level of attention to detail; excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to work independently and as part of a team; willingness to acquire new knowledge and skills; and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution Three years relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications

Three to five years of related library experience or relevant work experience.

Special or Physical Qualifications

Ability to lift up to 30 or more pounds
