This position oversees the lending of materials from Regenstein Bookstacks and Regenstein Reserve. This person is also responsible for answering patron questions relating to Access Services and serving as a resource for other questions relating to other Library services. During evenings/weekends, this person oversees Entry/Exit staff, acts as the supervisor in charge of the Regenstein Library, oversees building security, and enforces policies for maintaining a scholarly environment in the Library.
- Reporting to the Head of Regenstein Circulation and Building Resources, the Regenstein Evening & Weekend Circulation Services Supervisor oversees the lending of materials from reserves and bookstacks.
- During evenings/weekends, supervises Entry/Exit staff, acts as the supervisor in charge of the Regenstein Library, oversees building security, and enforces policies for maintaining a scholarly environment in the Library.
- Answers inquiries concerning overdue books, recalls, reserve problems, and fines in person, over the phone, and via online ticketing.
- Listens to patrons with special problems or complaints and attempts to resolve these problems as appropriate, interprets Library policies to patrons and refers patrons’ concerns to the Head of Circulation Services when appropriate.
- Interviews, hires, trains, supervises, and coordinates scheduling the student counter attendants, a shared and/or rotating responsibility with the two other Circulation Supervisors.
- Documents and updates Circulation procedures including training materials.
- Monitors, approves, and submits all documentation related to student counter attendants’ payroll, a shared and/or rotating responsibility with the two other Circulation Supervisors.
- Resolves problems and appeals from users on Entry/Exit questions, and oversees the application of rules and procedures for Library entrance during evenings/weekends.
- Provides initial response to emergencies and assists patrons in contacting University Police.
- Handles general inquires relating to building and security while on duty.
- Responsible for collection of fines and fees while on duty and the balancing of cash collected during scheduled hours.
- Responsible for answering patron questions related to Access Services and serves as a resources for other questions related to other Library services.

Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- A minimum of one (1) year of work experience in a library or equivalent environment.
- Previous experience directing or supervising the work of others.
- Significant customer service experience in a fast-paced library, retail, or similar environment.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
- Proficient with computer applications such as Microsoft Office, email and similar software programs.
- Navigate and search the Internet.
- Knowledge of integrated library systems.
- Basic knowledge of circulation practices, procedures, and technologies.
- Manage interpersonal relationships and interact with clarity, tact, and courtesy with patrons, staff, faculty, students, and others.
- Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Recognize and resolve or refer problems as necessary.

- This position covers all circulation shifts as assigned. Responsible for occasionally flexing the work schedule to cover other shifts as necessary in case of illness, vacation, or absences of other supervisors. The expectation is that planned time off will be taken only during interim breaks, and the schedule will be flexible during interim breaks and summer quarter. The hours scheduled may change during interim breaks. The following is the schedule during the academic quarter: Fridays and Saturdays: 3:00pm-11:00pm and Sundays-Tuesdays: 4:00pm – 12:00am.
- Carry or lifts loads of up to 50 lbs.
- Push/pull loaded book trucks.
- Handle large and oversize volumes.
- Shelve and retrieve materials at varying heights.
- Ability to hear, including making fine discriminations in sound.
- Ability to see, including color, depth perception, or clarity; must be able to visually focus on print and electronic material for long periods.
- Sit for 4 hours or more.
- Stand for up to 4 hours.
- Use computers extensively for 4 hours or more.
- Make repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movements.
- Operate equipment necessary to perform job.
- Work independently without constant supervision.
- Effective audio-visual discrimination and perception.
- Use general office equipment.
- Maintain a reliable schedule.
- Reliably able to work independently during evenings/weekends as the sole supervisor in a large academic library.
