The Coordinator will elevate awareness of library services, programs, and initiatives among key audiences and stakeholders through strategic and creative use of communication and marketing channels. A member of the Strategic Communications & Outreach Team and working under the direction of the Director of Strategic Communications & Outreach, the Coordinator will work within the collaborative environment of the University of Maryland Libraries to advance communications goals. Responsibilities include working with internal programmers to set and measure marketing goals; overseeing the content strategy for Libraries’ social media accounts; hiring, training, and supervising student assistants; coordinating event-based outreach; and assisting the Director with production of regular and targeted email communication with stakeholders; copywriting for marketing materials and news stories; and maintaining website content. Minimum Qualifications: 

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field. 

EXPERIENCE: At least 2 years of professional experience in communications.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of the principles and best practices of digital communications, social media, and marketing strategies.
  • High level of quality control through reviewing, editing, and proofing work.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under the pressure of last-minute deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external partners.

Preferences: 

  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of training and supervision. 
  • Experience supervising others. 
  • Event planning experience. 
  • Experience using a website content management system.
  • Prior work experience in a higher education or library environment.
