The Boston Public Library (BPL) is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented project consultant to develop, implement, and oversee completion of a major initiative to clean, inventory, catalog, store, and provide access to hundreds of thousands of the library’s most significant research holdings. The purpose of the project is to ensure the long-term preservation of these important materials and facilitate widespread public discovery and access. This work will take place primarily at the Central Library in Copley Square and the library’s offsite storage facility in West Roxbury. It is expected that components of this project will be conducted over several years and require contracts with external vendors. All project plans, milestones, and deliverables will be developed in close collaboration with BPL staff. The library has received significant funding from external donors to underwrite this project. This work represents a major philanthropic investment in the library; this is a high-profile project that has already received significant public attention. SCOPE OF WORK: The project manager will be responsible for developing detailed project plans, identifying and overseeing vendors, leading coordination efforts, managing the project schedules, and ensuring completion of the cleaning, inventory, electronic cataloging and storage & patron retrieval plan for approximately 150,000 volumes of the Founding Research Collection. SCHEDULE: The projected is expected to start in September 2021 and currently anticipated to last two years. BUDGET: Not to exceed $200,000. The City of Boston is committed to ensuring that vendors who work on the City’s behalf utilize procurement practices that are fully open to the inclusion of small and local businesses, including Small Local Business enterprises, Minority Business Enterprises, Woman Business Enterprises, and Veteran-Owned Small Business Enterprises. WALK-THROUGH: A walk-through of the project site will take place on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, 9:30am Boston time, meeting at the Copley Library, 700 Boylston St, Boston, MA.  The walk-through is highly suggested but not mandatory: please note that preregistration is required through business@bpl.org (2 persons maximum per proposal response). SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Proposals shall be due or submitted before 4:00 P.M., Boston time, Monday, August 16, 2021.
