The NC State University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Librarian for Student Success & Affordability in the Learning Spaces & Services department. This department (8 librarians, 8 support staff, and student assistants), part of the Libraries’ Student Success division, provides dynamic services, spaces, and technologies to enable all forms of learning, discovery, and research. Through its workshops, programs, and activities, students and faculty in all disciplines can explore and apply tools and systems for design thinking, 3D modeling, virtual environments, and digital media creation in their research and study. The department leads a range of programs and initiatives that support student learning, access to essential tools and resources, and undergraduate student success.
The Librarian for Student Success & Affordability works to provide cost-saving programs and services and other forms of academic support for students, reflecting the Libraries’ and the university’s commitment to making higher education more equitable and inclusive. The position promotes and facilitates the development and adoption of Open Educational Resources (OER) by working with faculty to identify or create open and affordable course content, supporting current adoptions, and by collaborating with university partners to help advance OER at NC State. The incumbent works closely with the Libraries’ Open Knowledge Center in these areas. This position plans, develops, and promotes opportunities and resources provided by the Libraries for the benefit of NC State students. This includes helping to oversee scholarships for student assistants that connect them with the Libraries and the library profession; leading the long-term technology access program for students with the greatest need; supporting initiatives to provide need-based, barrier-free access to textbooks and other essential resources; and participating in fundraising to help remove financial barriers to a university education. With the guidance of the Libraries’ Executive Director of Development, this position develops funding proposals aimed at supporting students, meets with potential donors and partners, and helps to communicate successful outcomes of the programs. They also serve as a liaison to other student affordability initiatives at the university. Librarians are expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field.
Minimum salary: $70,000 annually. Review of applications is underway; position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
