The University Librarian plays a key leadership role within the Library, to the University on behalf of the Library, and across the University broadly, envisioning the future in light of broader trends that face universities and libraries, and with relevance to the unique character of the region. They bring a critical understanding of the importance and role of digital technologies, infrastructure and open ecosystem and information rights approaches to augment, extend, and curate vital collections and services that facilitate learning and scholarship in and about the region. The University Librarian will advocate for the Library’s community of users, and on behalf of Library faculty and staff, and will also maintain momentum on critical Library strategic objectives that include decolonizing Library services and practices, respecting commitments to Indigenous knowledge stewardship, and increasing support for Open Access and Open Education resources. The ideal candidate is a leader in the profession with a demonstrated commitment to innovation, accessibility and service, with an interest in trying new service paradigms in evaluation of current practice. Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President Academic, you possess knowledge and understanding of emerging trends in higher education and in university libraries, and function effectively as a leader of professionals and part of a multi-faceted leadership team. You have demonstrated an understanding as well as a record of respectfully reflecting Indigenous community needs and expectations in library strategies and service design. You understand the instructional role of library faculty and their contributions to the contemporary learning environment in higher education, and you are a strong advocate for student success. Your strengths include highly developed financial, strategic planning, and assessment skills, including the ability to evaluate and utilize a range of evidence in planning and decision making. Your experience is augmented by a Master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
