Job Summary:
The UTA Libraries’ Director of Community Engagement provides leadership and collaborates with stakeholders to advance the Libraries’ community building goals. The director will have primary responsibility for community engagement within UTA and beyond that prioritizes justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI). This will include leading customer centered access and responsive circulation activities at all UTA facilities and maintaining strong campus student success partnerships. As a member of the Dean’s Department Heads and Directors leadership team, the Director of Community Engagement will actively engage in planning and implementing programs and services for the UTA Libraries.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Administration
- Provides leadership, vision, and organizational structure for events and community building, extraordinary customer service experiences, 24/7 service and access at library locations, student success partnerships, and circulation services.
- Responsible for hiring, supervising, mentoring, problem-solving, and goal setting for colleagues within the department. Plans initiatives for the department that align with the Libraries’ and University’s strategic plans.
- Develops and manages departmental budget.
- Collaborates with faculty, Libraries’ public services staff, and campus and community partners to achieve departmental and Libraries goals.
Grants and Outreach
- Identifies opportunities, creates proposals, and executes grants in support of community building, student success, and student engagement.
- Engages is professional development, scholarship, and outreach that centers on community building and student engagement and success.
Libraries’ Leadership
- As a member of the Dean’s Department Heads and Directors leadership team, the Director of Community Engagement will actively engage in planning and implementing innovative services for the UTA Libraries.
- Advance departmental, Libraries, and university goals.
- Advocate for equity, diversity, justice, and inclusive practices throughout UTA Libraries.
- Participate in committees and task forces within the Libraries, university, and the profession.
- Foster an environment of continual professional development, improvement, and learning.
- Continuously assess and iterate programs to improve services and advance initiatives.
- Demonstrate commitment to innovation and discovery to remain relevant in higher education, in public engagement, and to support others in doing so.
Other Duties as Assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Relevant Master’s degree.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience engaged in public or student services in higher education.
- Experience developing and delivering outreach and engagement services and programs.
- Demonstrated experience or commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive and diverse faculty, staff, and student community.
- Demonstrated organizational, analytical, decision-making, problem-solving and planning skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to facilitating extraordinary customer service experiences.
- Demonstrated project or personnel leadership experience.
- Experience with student success programs.
- Experience mentoring professional staff and developing their leadership skills.
- Supervisory experience.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Proficiency in Windows Operating System and file management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive experience developing and delivering customer service-related professional development programs.
- Experience developing productive partnerships across a large institution.
- Experience with both first time in college and K12 student populations.
- Experience with circulation services in academic libraries.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced project planning and management skills, involving designing, leading, and completing a project within its intended scope and timeline
