Evening/Weekend Regenstein Circulation Supervisor (Part Time)

- Manages daily circulation workflow including lending of materials awaiting pickup, course reserves, and general collections. Documents and updates departmental procedures accordingly.
- During their shift, supervises Entry/Exit staff, acts as the supervisor in charge of the Regenstein Library, oversees building security, and enforces policies for maintaining a scholarly environment in Regenstein.
- Attends to patrons with special problems or complaints and attempts to resolve these problems as appropriate, interprets Library policies to patrons and refers patrons’ concerns to the Head of Circulation Services when appropriate.
- Trains, supervises, and assists with scheduling for student counter attendants (approximately 20 part-time student employees). Coaches and directs student counter attendants in maintaining Regenstein policies, procedures, and standards of service.
- Resolves problems and appeals from users on Entry/Exit questions and oversees the application of rules and procedures for Library entrance during evenings/weekends.
- Provides supervisory coverage for Mansueto Circulation on an as needed basis due to staffing absences/vacancies.
- Answers inquiries concerning overdue books, recalls, reserve problems, and fines in person, over the phone, and via online ticketing. Responsible for collection of fines and fees.
- Opens or closes the building. Handles general inquires relating to building and security while on duty. Provides initial response to emergencies.
- Responsible for answering patron questions related to Access Services and serves as a resource for other questions related to other Library services.
- Distributes work to and monitors the work done by student counter attendants; troubleshoots equipment as needed.
- Performs other related work as needed.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Work experience in a library or equivalent environment.
- Previous experience directing or supervising the work of others.
- Significant customer service experience.
- Experience with MS Office, email, and internet work applications.
- Ability to both give and receive direction, to work independently and cooperatively as part of a diverse team.
- Ability to serve patrons and enforce library policies with clarity, consistency, patience, and tact.
- Ability to effectively manage staff and projects in accordance with departmental priorities.
- Ability to identify, respond to, and refer problems while exercising discretion and sound judgment.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in oral and written English.
- Schedule: Wednesday (8:00 pm – 12:00 am), Thursday (8:00 pm – 12:00 am), Friday (3:00 pm – 11:00 pm), Saturday (3:00 pm – 11:00 pm). Hours are subject to change during interim periods and based on Library needs.
- Ability to work late evening and weekend hours, occasionally flexing work schedule during changes in Library hours and during staff shortages and absences.
- Ability to carry or lift loads of up to 50 pounds and push/pull loaded book trucks.
- Ability to shelve and retrieve materials at varying heights.
- Ability to hear, including making fine discriminations in sound.
- Ability to see, including color, depth perception, or clarity; must be able to visually focus on print and electronic material for long periods.
- Ability to sit and use a computer for 4 hours or more. Ability to stand for up to 4 hours.
- Ability to make repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movements.
- Ability to work independently during evenings/weekends as the sole supervisor in a large academic library.
