Assistant/Associate Librarian - Assessment (Open Rank) Performs complex professional and administrative functions in the operation of a specialized section in the library; must cooperate and function as part of a team to provide services to all library users. This is an entry-level rank assigned to those beginning their professional careers or those, who upon their appointment, do not meet the criteria of Associate Librarian. Work is performed under general supervision with latitude for individual initiative and judgment. Evaluation is based upon accomplishment of defined objectives. May supervise various technical and clerical library employees. Major/Essential Functions The Assessment Librarian will be responsible for bringing together library assessment activities across library departments, participating in activities that measure and communicate the University Libraries' effectiveness and value to the university in meeting the strategic goals of Texas Tech. They will collaborate with departments throughout the libraries to help them assess, showcase and report on their activities to demonstrate continuous improvement in each area. Additionally, the Assessment Librarian will partner with other campus units, such as the Office of Planning and Assessment, to coordinate, highlight and assess library effectiveness. As a tenure-track faculty position, the Assessment Librarian will be expected to conduct research and scholarship, participate in university and professional service, and pursue professional development consistent with University Libraries’ standards for promotion and tenure. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Resources Management, Collections, and Library Systems, the Assessment Librarian will guide the growth of the libraries’ assessment culture, participating in activities that measure, highlight and communicate the University Libraries' effectiveness and value. This position requires leadership and analytical skills. Responsibilities: Organizes library-wide assessment programs that include data gathering, analysis, and reporting. Coordinates library assessment projects Organizes/analyzes assessment data for the University Libraries’ annual Strategic Plan report. Partners with library departments to create sustainable assessment plans Supports colleagues engaged in assessment work, ensuring shared actions and broad understanding toward assessment and assessment measures. Is a permanent member of the Library’s Assessment Team. Contributes to integrating assessment with data-driven planning and decision-making Supports library and university diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Commitment to conduct research and scholarship consistent with a tenure track faculty appointment; commitment to engage in continuing professional development. Candidates who have very strong records of scholarship supported by extramural funding and who have the proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech University are encouraged to apply. Service duties include program-building, as well as commitment to extra-curricular activities. Service to the department, college, university, and community is expected. Required Qualifications Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with library statistics. Awareness of academic library assessment issues and trends. Knowledge of data analysis and its use in libraries. Ability to initiate, track, and manage projects. Familiarity with current national library initiatives, such as IPEDS, ARL/ACRL statistics surveys, ACRL Standards for Libraries in Higher Education, etc. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to form positive and productive partnerships with diverse audiences and colleagues. Demonstrated effective organizational, analytical, and time management skills. Ability to meet the University’s criteria for promotion and tenure for library faculty. Ability to work independently and in a team setting, set priorities, and adapt to change.
