General Description: The XR Systems Developer, within University Libraries Technology Engagement, will be responsible for assisting the Emerging Technologies Supervisor with operations, research, design and testing of new platforms and technologies in support of XR spaces and projects. Primary responsibilities for this position include developing a backend architecture for integrating projects across different spaces; processing data in support of spaces and projects; researching, recommending, implementing and integrating databases and web technologies; assisting with front-end design and development of interactive installations; engaging with the campus community through workshops and other programming efforts. Duties:
  • Responsible for designing, coding, testing, implementing, maintaining and supporting applications software.
  • Learn and develop XR applications for different platforms (PC, Macs, mobile, headsets, etc.).
  • Clarify functional specifications and develop documentation.
  • Evaluate impact of patch sets on custom software and report findings.
  • Maintain relevant data on metrics.
  • Maintain database and server operations for current/future applications.
  • Participate in professional development training.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops for XR development.
  • Explore and experiment with new technology.
  • Mentor student employees.
  • Assist department with grant applications and reporting.
  • Respond to customer questions and concerns.
  • Provide consulting services to other entities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming.
  • Project management skills and application development pipeline.
  • Firm understanding of 3D modeling and user interfaces.
  • Familiarity with cloud services, relational databases, and server transactions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • Experience with Unity or Unreal, C# or C++.
  • Experience with full-stack web development.
  • Experience with mobile app development.
  • Understanding of interactive user interfaces.
  • Self-motivated in solving complex systems problems.
