Project Archivist for the Donald N. Heirman Papers What You'll Be Doing: As the Project Archivist for the Donald N. Heirman Papers you will arrange, take preservation actions, and create a comprehensive description of the newly-acquired papers of Purdue alumnus Donald N. Heirman. These papers record the professional research and accomplishments of Mr. Heirman, who was internationally recognized for his contributions to electromagnetic interference (EMC) standards. In order to increase access to this collection of international scholarly interest, this project archivist will also facilitate and collaborate with other staff members to digitize, create metadata, and provide an accessible online presence to the papers. Responsibilities shall include working with staff and vendors to complete digitization of materials. You will also provide reference assistance and answer reference questions regarding the Heirman papers. Through professional development activities this archivist will be encouraged to grow and maintain proficiency in a variety of archival best practices. To further support professional development, this project archivist will participate in unit-wide projects, initiatives, and committees as assigned. This position may include supervision of a student assistant. You will become part of a cohort of new archivists working with experienced archivists within Purdue University Archives and Special Collections. New and early career archivists, including persons completing their Master’s Degree in December 2022, are encouraged to apply. A cover letter is required to be considered for this position. Salary Range: $40,200-$55,800. A relocation allowance may be available upon hire.  Professional development funds are available for this position. This position has a limited duration of 3 years. Benefits do apply. What We're Looking For: Education and Experience Must have:
  • ALA accredited Master of Library Science or Master of Information Science with coursework in archives and records management
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience processing archival collections through either practicum or professional practice experience in an archives or library; processing archival collections and writing DACS-compliant finding aids; understanding of applications of metadata structure standards (EAD, Dublin Core); knowledge of digitization best practices
  • Knowledge of best practices for the physical and intellectual arrangement, description, and preservation of textual, audio-visual, photographic, and digital-born collection materials
  • Interest in and growing understanding of copyright and rights management issues
  • Experience or commitment to advancing diversity, inclusion, and belonging through archival practice, scholarship, and service
  • Familiarity with processing of digital materials
  • Familiarity with archival collections management systems or databases, such as ArchivesSpace
  • Demonstrated ability to work individually and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
