Job Description: The Collection Strategies Librarian is responsible for implementing strategic collection building, supporting University programs, Open Access scholarship, diversity, equity and inclusion, and scholarly communication. The position works closely with outreach librarians and faculty, identifying changing collection needs, makes data-informed collection decisions for new programs and subject areas, and works to develop open and more sustainable ideas for collection building. Additional responsibilities include license negotiations, vendor communications, purchasing, and supervising ordering staff. Job Duties:
  • Works collaboratively with outreach librarians, faculty, and Collections Team to enhance developing collections, support university research and instruction, formulate policies, recommend strategic initiatives to improve collections, and communicate with faculty and stakeholders.
  • Participates in the research and implementation of innovative approaches to collections and content that transitions toward greater openness of scholarship.
  • Utilizes and creates collection reports to evaluate subject content. Evaluates usage statistics, turn-away reports, and library holdings.
  • Negotiates licenses and purchases non-serial materials.
  • Coordinates demand-driven acquisitions and approval plans.
  • Supervise and train ordering and receiving staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
  • Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program or related graduate degree program. Familiarity with academic or scientific publishing as well as evolving models of open access and scholarly communications.
  • Knowledge of best practices for pedagogy, outreach, and engagement.
  • Experience monitoring a budget.
  • Knowledge of collection analysis methodologies and collection development tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Experience with procurement.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerBI, etc.).
  • Ability to read, interpret, and negotiate licenses.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities, deadlines, and changing project parameters.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully and professionally in person and via phone, chat, email, and other channels.
  • Ability to work and engage with colleagues and vendors from diverse backgrounds.
