Boston College Libraries are seeking a strategically-minded leader to serve as Associate University Librarian (AUL) for Digital Programs and Technology Services. Reporting to the University Librarian and serving on the Libraries’ senior administrative team, the AUL collaboratively guides organizational priorities and services, addressing both internal operational needs and outward-facing library services. The AUL cultivates productive relationships across the Libraries and with campus stakeholders and technology vendors. The AUL directly manages the heads of four departments, collectively comprising approximately 30 FTE: Digital Scholarship, Digital Production Services, Metadata and Special Collections Technical Services, and Library Systems and Applications. The opportunity for this  position involves integrating the programs and services in digital scholarship, digital production, descriptive metadata and technology infrastructure in supporting the Boston College commitment to student formation and cura personalis and in further developing our integrated suite of services model to better foster academic success, commensurate with the Library’s mission.  The AUL is responsible for ensuring user satisfaction with the quality and integrity of the Libraries’ technology infrastructure, including discovery and web services (Alma, Primo, Illiad, ArchivesSpace), digital collections (Islandora) and digital publishing platforms (Open Journal Systems), and other enterprise systems. The AUL is also responsible for implementing innovative digital scholarship services and efficient, user-responsive digitization and metadata creation and management services.
  • Requirements include a master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library or information science program, or equivalent, with a minimum of ten years of successful experience with progressive responsibilities and at least five years managing staff in an academic or research library.
