Texas A&M University Libraries seeks an innovative and dynamic professional to join the Texas A&M University Libraries as the Copyright and Fair Use Librarian. We are hiring one individual for a full-time position with an 11-month academic appointment. This is a tenure-track/tenured position with research and service expectations. Applicants will be considered for the faculty titles of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor depending on qualifications. The Libraries’ Office of Scholarly Communications is partnering with the Texas A&M community to influence and promote positive change for the vital role that access to scholarly information has on research and scholarship, including improving access, strengthening author/faculty rights, decreasing costs, and enhancing the use of the scholarly corpus through data/textual manipulation and analysis. Reporting to the Dean through the Associate Dean for Information Services and the Director of Scholarly Communications, this Librarian will coordinate and advance library initiatives in Copyright and Fair Use. The Libraries seek someone who can contribute to internal teams developing our digital library collections; provide training and support to the campus community on copyright and fair use; advance campus policies and mandates that promote open access and the use of open educational resources; and participate in campus-wide engagement regarding open access, digital scholarship, and the scholarly communication cycle. The responsibilities of the Copyright and Fair Use Librarian, include:

  • Contribute to the responsible access of digital objects in our digital library; recommend copyright/fair use-conformant standards, policies, and workflows for the collection and management of scholarly digital objects.
  • Provide training and support to the campus community on copyright and fair use.
  • Participate in campus-wide engagement regarding open access, open educational resources, digital scholarship, and the scholarly communication cycle.
  • Tenure-track responsibilities include engaging in research activities leading to publications and national service to meet both the Libraries’ and the University’s requirements for tenure and promotion. Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution (or international equivalent)
  • Knowledge of standards and practices related to copyright and fair use
  • Experience providing copyright/fair use services, training, or teaching
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service by creating inclusive and respectful environments
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and teamwork skills complemented by the ability to adapt and take initiative
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • Formal coursework in legal studies or a Juris Doctor (JD) Degree
  • Understanding of the research process, current issues in scholarly communication, and the role of libraries and librarians in supporting research and scholarly practices
  • Experience or training in managing and/or developing repositories and digital collections

Salary/Benefits:

Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience; minimum starting salary will be $51,500. Excellent benefits include health plan and paid life insurance; several retirement plans including TIAA; paid holidays; no state or local income tax. Funding is provided for professional travel and development activities.
