The Washington State University Libraries invites applications for Reference Coordinator/ Undergraduate Services Librarian, a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position located in Pullman, Washington. This position reports to the Associate Dean of Libraries. The Reference Coordinator/Undergraduate Services Librarian will be primarily responsible for providing instruction to lower-level undergraduates and for coordinating reference service in the Holland and Terrell Libraries and our campus-wide virtual reference services.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Undergraduate Services Team:

  • Provide reference service in person and through virtual reference platform(s).
  • Coordinate reference services, including:
    • Scheduling for all reference services.
    • Hiring and training student assistants or part time employees.
    • Keeping up to date with trends and developments.
    • Assessing services.
    • Communicating with library staff, faculty, student workers, and constituents.
  • Participate in delivering instruction to English 101 and other lower undergraduate general education courses.
  • Serve on the Research Services Steering Committee with the Undergraduate Services team instruction coordinator and the coordinator(s) for the Subject Liaison team.

Scholarship, Professional Development, and Service:

  • Keeps up on trends in librarianship and higher education.
  • Participates in professional organizations and attends workshops, conferences, institutes, etc. at the local, state and national level.
  • Participates in scholarly research and publication.
  • Performs in a manner consistent with the Library's Criteria for Merit Increases, Promotion and Granting of Tenure.
  • Serves on Library Working Groups, task forces and search committees.
  • Serves on WSU committees and task forces.
  • Performs related special assignments as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an American Library Association (ALA)-Accredited Library and Information Studies program at date of hire.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently.
  • Experience in providing reference service in an academic library setting.
  • Experience in coordinating, leading or managing a program or service.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with coordinating, leading or managing a reference or other library program or service specifically in an academic setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and improve services.
  • Experience with classroom teaching and/or library instruction.
  • Documented achievement in research, creative work and professional service.
