JOB OVERVIEW:

This Donald C. Harrison Health Sciences Library (HSL) position provides research and consultation, instruction, collection development, and outreach services to the University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center (AHC), which consists of the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Allied Health. This service-oriented position will develop and teach classes on evidence-based practice, health informatics, knowledge generation and evidence synthesis. This is a library faculty tenure-track position. Final rank and title commensurate with education and experience. Reports to and receives guidance from the Assistant Dean Director, Donald C. Harrison Health Sciences Library with a dotted line to the Assistant Director of Research, Data Services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Serves as HSL liaison to Academic Health Center Colleges to cultivate collaborations in the area of library collections, research  assistance/consultations and health informatics. Serves as a member of the HSL’s Information Services and Informationist team.
  • Develops and provides services and resources in support of eLearning.
  • Works with HSL and the University of Cincinnati (UC) Libraries colleagues to develop, deliver, and assess virtual and in-person instructional activities to support effective, efficient, and ethical use of research resources and tools.
  • Collaborates with faculty to integrate information literacy, research instruction, and health informatics into courses and course assignments across the curriculum.
  • Participates in assessing and delivering information literacy and library instruction services.
  • Manages and organizes digital learning resources that include but are not limited to software, programs or websites that engage in and support students in learning activities and learning goals.
  • Serves as a member of the HSL collection development team. Assists in developing, revising, and implementing HSL collection development policies; includes assisting with selection and weeding of the reference and general collections.
  • Provides digital education; utilizing digital tools and technologies during teaching and learning (Technology Enhanced Learning – TEL)
  • Participates in discussion and implementation of recommendations to evaluate, improve and streamline HSL services.
  • Provides expert search services, including systematic reviews, and other intensive research projects.
  • Collaborates with research data science colleagues to develop, coordinate, and support services and programs that advance knowledge and skills related to quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Supports research by developing and delivering training sessions and programs aimed at knowledge generation, evidence synthesis and general digital fluency.
  • Provides project consultation support to researchers and collaborates on research projects when appropriate.
  • Assists researchers and staff with federal funding agencies’ policies requiring open/public access to publications and research data and communicating requirements to campus stakeholders.
  • Participates on appropriate committees and organizations related to the duties and responsibilities of the department and in support of UC Libraries programs and organizations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in library and information science/management or relevant graduate education.
  • Previous teaching experience.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED:

  • Professional experience working in an academic health sciences or research library, where experience may include collection development in an academic library.
  • Knowledge of health informatics, knowledge management, data science/analytics (the aptness to help determine links between demographics and technologies that can be measured to help researchers improve and increase higher user/patient satisfaction scores important in their area of study).
  • Expertise with evidence-based practice.
  • Experience conducting systematic reviews.
  • Knowledge of current instructional pedagogies.
  • Proficient bibliographic and information literacy instruction experience.
