South Asian and Southeast Asian Studies Librarian Assistant/Associate Librarian Indiana University Bloomington Libraries Seeking a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative individual to support research, teaching, and learning in South Asian and Southeast Asian Studies’ departments and programs. The South Asian and Southeast Asian Studies Librarian supports students and researchers alike through instruction and research consultations, promotes and supports the use of the Libraries’ collections and resources, develops and maintains strong, collaborative relationships with faculty, students, and affiliated researchers across departments, and proactively identifies and meets needs through innovative programs, collections, and services. RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage and develop interdisciplinary library collections including current and retrospective materials from and about the regions of South Asia and Southeast Asia, manage these collections’ budgets, approval plans, and electronic resources; Manage the niche collection of South Asian film materials, including a web archive, special collections, and published materials; Establish and maintain effective communication with distributors, publishers, and other sources of content and materials; Regularly evaluate the collections to assess strengths, weaknesses, and needs to enhance the collection, including potential gift materials; Engage with potential donors and make site visits as necessary; Promote the Libraries culture of diversity and inclusion, and support the values outlined in the IUB Libraries Diversity Strategic Plan. QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited graduate degree in library or information science or international equivalent; candidates with an advanced degree in a relevant subject area and appropriate experience in an academic setting will also be considered; Demonstrated ability to understand and promote the Libraries’ culture of diversity and inclusion, and support the values outlined in the Libraries Strategic Plan (https://libraries.indiana.edu/strategicplan), and the Libraries’ Diversity Strategic Plan (https://libraries.indiana.edu/file/diversity-strategic-plan-20162017pdf); Demonstrated ability to meet the requirements of a tenure-track position at the IU Libraries. DESIRABLE: Demonstrated aptitude in at least one key Indic language, such as (but not exclusively) Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, or Sanskrit; Demonstrated ability to identify and work with materials in a variety of Indic languages.
