About the University of Toronto Libraries The University of Toronto Libraries system is the largest academic library in Canada and is consistently ranked in the top ten among academic research libraries in North America. The system consists of 40 libraries located on three university campuses: St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough. This array of college libraries, special collections, and specialized libraries and information centres supports the teaching and research requirements of over 300 graduate programs, more than 70 professional programs, and about 700 undergraduate degree programs. In addition to more than 12 million volumes in 341 languages, the library system currently provides access to millions of electronic resources in various forms and over 31,000 linear metres of archival material. More than 150,000 new print volumes are acquired each year. The Libraries' data centre houses more than 500 servers with a storage capacity of 1.5 petabytes. About the Bora Laskin Law Library The Bora Laskin Law Library is a busy academic library that supports the teaching and research needs of 52 full-time faculty members, 60+ adjunct professors, 600 undergraduate law students and 190 graduate law students. The Faculty represents a broad range of research interests, including many inter-disciplinary studies, and reflects a growing emphasis on global legal perspectives. The Law Library is also used by other members of the University of Toronto community, members of the legal professional community, and members of the public. The Library building, opened in 2016, houses a collection of over 290,000 print volumes, as well as numerous electronic resources. The Opportunity The Bora Laskin Law Library seeks a dynamic librarian with a strong background in legal information resources to join an outstanding team of law librarians who provide information services of the highest calibre. The ideal candidate will be energetic, self-motivated, as well as possess the ability to work, in a collegial, team-oriented environment that emphasizes the delivery of exemplary information services. Working under the direction of the Chief Law Librarian and in close collaboration with UTL collections and acquisitions colleagues, this position will manage, promote and coordinate assessment of the law library's collection with a view to growing the collection for the future, including advancing the values of equity, diversity and inclusivity. The successful candidate will also provide support to the Faculty of Law with respect to gathering and analyzing reputational metrics. This position will provide reference assistance to students, faculty and other patrons, as well as in-depth research support for law faculty and students. The incumbent will also provide instruction as part of the library’s participation in the law school’s legal research and writing program. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: •A degree from an accredited Master’s level program in library and information studies •Demonstrated commitment to the values of inclusivity, diversity, equity, anti-racism and accessibility •Demonstrated knowledge of legal information and resources in both print and electronic formats •Demonstrated commitment to the provision of high-quality public service and instruction •Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with an aptitude for detail-oriented work •Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a variety of user groups PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: •Relevant experience in a law library setting •Experience with electronic serials and e-resource management •Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning about information technology. •Experience and/or familiarity working with Ex Libris Alma Salary and Terms of Appointment: It is anticipated that this position will be filled at the Librarian I or II level, subject to review and experience. Minimum salary: LIB I: $ 70,744; LIB II: $ 73,815 (Salary is dependent on rank at hire and qualifications). This is a permanent status stream position.
