Research Impact & Research Information Management Librarian

The University of Minnesota Libraries invites applications for a Research Impact & Research Information Management (RIM) Librarian. The incumbent is responsible for current and possible future services in support of research information management and research impact, serving multiple levels of needs and interest. This position is part of the Open Research & Publishing department and reports to the Director of Open Research & Publishing. The Libraries is deeply collaborative, and the successful candidate will work closely with colleagues across departments and service areas to advance the Libraries’ strategic priorities in supporting open science and scholarship, showcasing university research and scholarship, and engaging with the university’s research enterprise.

The University Libraries is an integral part of campus life. Recognized in 2017 with the IMLS National Medal, the Libraries is a significant contributor of resources and programs within the metropolitan area, the state, and beyond. The Libraries provides a highly collaborative environment, distinguished by new models for teaching/learning, research support, and scholarly communication. The Libraries is known for its advanced web services, significant collaborative digital library development, and a record of innovative partnerships. Outreach is strengthened by unparalleled infrastructure for resource sharing and information access within the state and region provided by the University Libraries-based Minitex program. The Libraries is a member of the Association of Research Libraries, the Big Ten Academic Alliance, the Center for Research Libraries, the Digital Library Federation, and the Coalition for Networked Information, and is a founding partner in the HathiTrust. The University of Minnesota Libraries has a robust research information management service, including an existing researcher profile/expertise system, a research information data warehouse for various institutional uses, and a fully implemented ORCID system. This service is supported through substantial, distributed educational offerings and a team-based support model. 

Responsibilities

• Provides vision and direction for the Libraries' research information management and research impact services.
• Provides consultation services to researchers on the use of research metrics, including guidance around the responsible use of metrics, disciplinary differences in publishing and metrics, and the use of various bibliometric and altmetric resources, and the use of researcher identification and profiling tools.
• Prioritizes, evaluates, negotiates and manages requests for research information and bibliometric data and support.
• Designs, develops and maintains effective content and training related to research information management and research impact.
• Prepares standard and customized reports, visualizations and presentations for faculty, departments and research centers.
• Extracts and analyzes research-related data in support of strategic requests from Libraries leadership.
• Works closely with vendors and campus colleagues to solve technical issues.
• Develops and maintains an awareness of the trends and issues in university level rankings and research impact, and advocates for the responsible use of metrics
• Serves as the Libraries' liaison to local and national RIM community, including but not limited to the North American Pure User Group and EFS Forum.

Qualifications

Required:

• American Library Association accredited Master’s degree in Library/Information Science or equivalent combination of advanced degree and relevant experience.
• Experience working with research metric data sources (e.g., Web of Science, Scopus, Google Scholar).
• Demonstrated knowledge of emerging trends in research impact and assessment.
• Demonstrated experience administering and supporting library systems or tools.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders in a research-intensive environment.
• Project management skills, including experience managing multiple projects with competing deadlines.
• Evidence of excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to present data effectively.

 Preferred:

• Experience with research information management systems, such as Pure, VIVO, Esploro, or Profiles.
• Experience with data visualization and data analysis.
• Demonstrated involvement in professional activities, including evidence of ability to contribute to librarianship, research, and service as well as capacity for leadership within the profession.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

This is a full-time, 12-month, continuous-appointment track, academic professional position with probationary appointment at the Assistant or Associate Librarian level. The Libraries offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience, with a minimum salary of $57,500. Excellent benefits and substantial moving allowance.
