Position Discription:

The Humanities Librarian works closely with campus and external partners to build interdisciplinary partnerships that best serve the research, teaching, and learning needs of Carolina’s faculty and students. The librarian supports research, teaching, and scholarly communication in a variety of humanities and related disciplines through specialized research consultations; inclusive and student-centric instruction; course development; advocacy and support for sustainable scholarship; and through partnership with library colleagues to build inclusive collections in the humanities. Additionally, the librarian will engage in scholarship and service within the libraries, on campus, in the Triangle, nationally, and internationally as appropriate. Throughout, the Librarian will prioritize the University Libraries pillars: Student Success, Preservation, and the Research Enterprise as well as key library initiatives such as Reckoning, Sustainable Scholarship and Data Science.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

ALA-accredited MIS, MLS, or other advanced relevant degree. Advanced reading knowledge of at least two non-English languages. Experience applying technology to enhance classroom teaching or library instruction for undergraduates. Demonstrated experience supporting student success. Experience providing research consultations for a diverse community of scholars. Experience with collection development and collection assessment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to excel in a dynamic, collaborative, team-based environment.Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.Up-to-date knowledge of digital scholarship tools and an interest in the intersection of data science and the humanities.

Education Requirements: Requires the Masters in Library Science (MLS) degree (or foreign degree equivalent). In specialized libraries, may substitute an advanced degree in the field of specialization (e.g., legal degree for a law library, or a history degree for a special historical collection within the library setting).

Advanced degree in a humanities discipline. Knowledge of additional non-English languages. Experience applying a DEIA lens to collection assessment. Knowledge of trends in open access and sustainable scholarship in the humanities. Demonstrated commitment to professional development and professional service.
