Haas Family Arts Library at Yale seeks an Arts Librarian for Access Services to oversee the library's main service point and its related public services. They will promote and instill the highest services standards and leverage the department's resources to provide excellent customer service. The person in this position will supervise, motivate, and coach six public services staff responsible for a range of library services including: basic reference and referrals, circulation, privileges, course reserves, resource sharing, and stacks maintenance in a service-focused library. Hires, trains, and evaluates the work of staff working in access services and oversees the hiring and training program for a large group of student workers. Demonstrates and instills a strong understanding of excellent customer service, facilitates communication and coordination between Arts Library staff, and fosters a cooperative, team-oriented work environment. Actively seeks improvements, plans, and implements new services; supports and improves existing services. Writes documentation and revises procedures. With colleagues at the Arts Library and across the Yale University Library, this librarian will shape library services. This librarian will work with other librarians to provide research support to Arts Library patrons using a wide range of digital and print resources, instructional and information technologies. With the director and four other Arts librarians, they will participate in overall Arts Library planning and help foster a creative, collaborative, and team-oriented work environment. Participates in library system-wide planning, committees, and work groups, and engage in campus, regional and national professional organizations, and collaborative activities. Monitors developments and best practices elsewhere to help ensure the excellence of Yale's collections and research support services.   This position will be assigned a rank of Librarian 3 or Librarian 4.   1. May be responsible for staffing and services in the following areas: information desk, circulation, course reserves (electronic and print), resource sharing, stacks maintenance, privileges, security, and/or oversight of and liaison for facilities operations. 2. Participates in hiring, training, coaching and evaluating the work of access services staff members. 3. Participates in planning and implementing new services, and supporting and improving existing services. 4. Responsible for ensuring consistency in service quality, policy interpretation, and following procedures. 5. Works with vendors or other units that support library operations, such as technical services, collection development, Library IT, facilities maintenance, and security. 6. Participates in departmental library access services program planning. 7. Participates in library system-wide planning, committees, and work groups, and engages in campus, regional, and national professional organizations and collaborative activities. Participates in professional activities outside of Yale and monitors developments and best practices elsewhere to help ensure the excellence of Yale's collections and research support services. 8. May be required to assist with disaster recovery efforts. 9. May perform other duties as assigned.
  Required Education and Experience:  
  1. Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school. In selected instances, a post-graduate degree in a related discipline may be required or substituted for a master's degree in library science. 2. Demonstrated excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications and analytical ability. 3. Demonstrated record of designing projects and bringing them to a conclusion in a timely fashion. 4. Experience working collegially and cooperatively within and across organizations. 5. Experience working collaboratively and independently with varied groups within a complex organization and rapidly changing, team environment.   Required Skill/Ability 1:   Undergraduate or advanced degree in the visual arts/design, art history, architecture, or drama/theater. A minimum number of five years of professional experience. At least three years of supervisory experience.   Required Skill/Ability 2:   Demonstrated ability to oversee the library’s circulation, resource sharing/document delivery/interlibrary loan, and reserves services, which includes the related integrated library systems and technologies. Oversees the library’s student wage and supplies budgets.   Required Skill/Ability 3:   Experience in providing public services, reference, and research support. Demonstrated ability to provide research support for art, architecture, drama. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications and analytical ability.   Required Skill/Ability 4:   Experience working collaboratively and independently with varied groups within a complex organization and rapidly changing, team environment. Excellent customer service skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.   Required Skill/Ability 5:   Commitment to an inclusive workplace.
