The Team: The Research & Scholarship (R&S) team focuses on addressing the systemic issues in scholarly communication by challenging legacy processes in the exploration of new services, approaches, and initiatives. The team is comprised of librarians, professionals, and associates who provide expertise throughout the research and publishing lifecycle. As part of this team, the Research & Scholarship Librarian will actively contribute toward the team’s goals to: * Develop services, participate in research, and provide expertise to support research and scholarly communication processes * Collaboratively identify, develop, and implement sustainable services and infrastructure in support of open scholarship projects * Develop an understanding of the research enterprise on campus and identify needs for support and collaboration * Raise awareness of, enable, and advocate for transformation in scholarly communication The Position: Reporting to the Head of the R&S team, the Research & Scholarship Librarian will collaborate with members of the R&S team, other teams in the library (particularly Collections & Content), and units across campus to provide continued support for researcher needs around open publishing, especially as they pertain to the University of Guelph’s institutional repository (IR). The position will be responsible for providing support to members of the campus community through instruction, consultation, and outreach activities. Significant collaborators will include the Office of Research and the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. Responsibilities for this position will include: * Lead the development, advancement, and promotion of open collections in the IR * Work collaboratively with stakeholders in the development of strategies to support the creation, discovery, and accessibility of open scholarship across campus * Contribute to the advancement and assessment of the IR * Lead the library’s support for ORCiD, with a focus on increasing adoption and integration into campus and research support systems * Contribute to services in support of research metrics and publication analysis * Contribute to services in support of author rights, including the review of publisher contracts and advisement around publishing considerations * Design and deliver instructional workshops and educational materials to increase understanding of open licensing, copyright, and the publishing process Required Qualifications: * ALA-accredited master’s degree or equivalent? * Minimum of one-year relevant work experience in an academic or research environment * Demonstrated experience with creating, facilitating, and executing outreach initiatives in an academic or research environment * Experience with designing and delivering instruction and/or educational materials * Excellent communication skills * Knowledge of Creative Commons licensing, especially as it relates to the deposit, sharing, and reuse of research and educational materials * Demonstrated ability to take initiative, set goals, and manage time * Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work with diverse stakeholders * Demonstrated creative thinking and problem-solving abilities Desired Qualifications: * Knowledge of Canadian copyright law * Knowledge of research metrics and tools for publication analysis * Experience with project management * Experience with creating new programming The University of Guelph is the third largest employer in Guelph, a city of approximately 130,000 people, located about an hour drive west of Toronto, Ontario. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, but salary floors and information about professional development funds are outlined in the UGFA Collective Agreement.
