Director, Digital Scholarship

Columbia University Libraries seeks a dynamic and engaged leader to serve as the Director of Digital Scholarship Services.  The Director of Digital Scholarship Services is charged with envisioning, planning, and implementing a strategic digital scholarship program for the Columbia University Libraries. The Director will lead a creative and innovative team of library staff in developing impactful services, projects, and partnerships that drive the scholarship and teaching of the university.  This mandate includes cultivating the department's strategy of support and engagement for university research, publishing, and digital projects, and digital and data literacies in alignment with the values of the libraries, the university’s mission, and the Columbia “fourth purpose.” The Digital Scholarship Services unit, including Scholarly Communications and Research Data Services, forges key alliances with researchers and scholars, educators, and administrators across the university, provides instruction and guidance to students across disciplines, and preserves and amplifies the creative and scholarly output of the university.   The Director is crucial in building external relationships with other Columbia university units such as Columbia Research, the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), Columbia University Information Technology, and Columbia University Press. The Director also maintains relationships with other library units, helping to shape and support the libraries' identified projects and priorities. Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Research and Learning, the Director, Digital Scholarship is a critical member of the Research and Learning leadership team and the Libraries' Leadership Council. Position Responsibilities

• Devise and implement a strategic vision for Digital Scholarship at Columbia University Libraries. This includes pedagogical scale and direction, production goals, space utilization, staff recruitment, retention, and mentoring.
• Ensure alignment of the Digital Scholarship unit's strategic goals and vision are aligned with both the strategic goals of CUL as well as the research and learning goals of the constituent communities.
• Identify, explore, implement and grow new and emergent program areas within digital scholarship as appropriate for the Libraries, the university, and the LIS field.
• The Digital Scholarship leadership team oversee the day-to-day operations of the Libraries Digital Scholarship unit, including budget oversight, technologies, facilities, and project management.
• Build strong networks with other CUL units.  Support other CUL Directors in incorporating and bringing departmental expertise to departmental initiatives. Represent and promote CUL Digital Scholarship in campus, consortial, and industry interactions.
• Pursue and grant and other funding options.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

• Masters Degree in Library Science or other advanced degree in related field.
• Demonstrated knowledge of research and scholarly communications, data services, digital service development, and delivery
• Demonstrated ability to organize, manage, and launch new programs
• Demonstrated commitment to DEI in scholarly communication and management practice

Preferred Qualifications

• An advanced degree relevant to digital scholarship, scholarly communications /publishing, and/or research methods
• Experience leading staff or teams through change management
