The Claude Moore Health Sciences Library is looking for an Electronic Resources Librarian.  Reporting to the Deputy Director and residing in the Access Services department, this position is responsible for providing leadership for strategic development and management of the life cycle of new and existing electronic resources, discovery tools, website, and other content in all formats.  The successful candidate will work daily with library liaisons, data specialists, and Historical Collections and will have regular contact with librarians and specialists at other UVA libraries.   • Develop and manage resources in support of UVA Health’s strategic mission
  • Work with liaisons to build topical coverage appropriate to UVA Health departments
  • Coordinate training on electronic resources for staff and for patrons
  • Maintain timely and accurate metadata about the library’s resources in a variety of systems, including Serials Solutions, and EZ Proxy
  • Manage collections budget to ensure timely expenditure of funds
  • Apply usage statistics and other assessment data to identify needs, evaluate current and potential licenses and to support renewals, alternative access options, and withdrawal
  • Provide detailed collection policies that define the scope and level of collections
  • Establish and document workflows, processes, and best practices for electronic resources acquisition, licensing, implementation, assessment, and budget
  • Willingness to experiment with emerging knowledge discovery/creation systems
  • Develop and maintain productive and positive relationships with vendors, colleagues, faculty, students, and staff
  • Contribute to the profession through scholarship and service
  • Performs other duties as required
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Master's degree in Library Science or other academic discipline Experience: Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree from an ALA accredited institution
  • At least one year experience in technical services at an academic, research, or health sciences library
  • Experience in setting up, providing access to, and troubleshooting issues with electronic resources through database and web page maintenance, cataloging, proxy server, and OpenURL linking
  • Proven project management skills
  • Familiarity with biomedical research and experience searching biomedical and other health-related information resources and citation management systems
  • Working knowledge of common and emerging metadata and encoding standards
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet deadlines
  • Strong commitment to working in a diverse and collegial atmosphere that offers opportunities for innovation and professional growth

  • Basic knowledge of metadata standards/metadata creation
  • Ability to work creatively and effectively in a hybrid work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player in maintaining cooperative working relationships with administrators, faculty, students, and staff
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to explain complex concepts to a wide range of users in individual and group settings
  • Strong interest in the health sciences and supporting researchers, residents, students, and faculty
PHYSICAL DEMANDS This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
