About the University of Toronto Libraries The University of Toronto Libraries (UTL) system is the largest academic library in Canada and is consistently ranked in the top ten among academic research libraries in North America. The system consists of 40 libraries located on three university campuses: St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough. This array of college libraries, special collections, and specialized libraries and information centres supports the teaching and research requirements of over 300 graduate programs, more than 70 professional programs, and about 700 undergraduate degree programs. In addition to more than 12 million volumes in 341 languages, the library system currently provides access to millions of electronic resources in various forms and over 31,000 linear metres of archival material. More than 150,000 new print volumes are acquired each year. The Libraries' data centre houses more than 600 servers with a storage capacity of 1.5 petabytes. The Library is a state-of-the-art teaching and learning centre that emphasizes people space. It includes a Learning Commons, two smart classrooms, an audio-video recording studio, the Li Koon Chun Finance Learning Centre and a dedicated space for archives and special collections. The Opportunity The UTM Library invites applications for two innovative and service-oriented librarians for the positions of Reference and Instruction Librarian. The successful candidates will provide dynamic, engaging information literacy instruction in various subject areas as part of the Library’s well-established instruction program. The successful candidates will also provide ongoing support for the Library’s reference and research services. The individuals may assume other liaison librarian responsibilities if needed and will take on special projects related to teaching and learning and reference and research services, as assigned. The successful candidates will: • Work closely with colleagues within the UTM Library and across the UTL system • Design, deliver and assess curriculum-embedded instruction across various subject areas in partnership with faculty and Library colleagues, with guidance and support from the Head, Instruction, and other Library colleagues • Support the Library’s in-person, online and chat-based reference and research services • Complete special projects related to teaching and learning and reference and research services, as assigned • Serve on library committees and working groups as necessary • Contribute to other Library projects or initiatives as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • A degree from an accredited Master’s level program in library and information studies • Demonstrated commitment to the values of inclusivity, diversity, equity, anti-racism and accessibility • Interest in teaching and learning in a library context • Familiarity with core academic library databases across multiple disciplines • Ability to work effectively independently and as a member of a team • Strong presentation and communication skills • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and collaboration and communication software such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Prior experience with instruction in a library context, preferably academic • Prior experience with reference and research services in a library context, preferably academic • Experience working with LibGuides, learning management system software, and other teaching and learning software Salary and Terms of Appointment: These are one-year contractually-limited term appointments that will begin as soon as possible. It is anticipated that these positions will be filled at the Librarian I or II level, subject to review and experience. Minimum salary: LIB I: $71,451; LIB II: $74,553.
