The University of Missouri Libraries invites applications for a new Student Success Librarian position to join a newly formed Teaching and Learning Department based in Ellis Library.  The position will help to coordinate and provide instruction, research support, and outreach services for first-year at Mizzou students including students enrolled in English composition courses, Freshman interest groups, Student Success courses, and new transfer students. In collaboration with subject librarians, Student Success librarians also provide outreach to a variety of offices and programs that provide centralized support for students, such as the Graduate School, the International Student Office, Missouri Online, and campus programs supporting first generation and underrepresented student groups. Our new Student Success Librarian will work as a team with the Head of Teaching & Learning, a second Student Success Librarian responsible for coordinating first-year composition and international student outreach, and two Information Specialist positions to support all departmental initiatives.  This position will have primary responsibility for e-learning initiatives, distance learners, and OER.  The Teaching and Learning Department also supports a growing Digital Media & Innovation Lab (DMiL) and contributes to the management of the libraries’ web site.  This position is entry level.  Training and mentorship will be provided. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and library colleagues to offer synchronous and asynchronous information literacy instruction, develop learning objects, and create other teaching materials to improve students’ information literacy skills
  • Contribute to the library’s information literacy instruction for the first-year composition program (English 1000)
  • Initiate and support library programs and services that target and improve first-year student success, including general workshops and online modules designed for a lower-division undergraduate audience
  • Provide outreach and advocacy for open educational resources
  • Work with DMiL students and staff to develop and update online instructional materials
  • Stay up to date with trends and developments in information literacy, library instruction, and the library’s role in supporting student success
  • Contribute to a culture of teaching and learning by actively engaging librarians in professional development activities geared to enhance library instruction and teaching pedagogy
  • Contribute to and learn from the profession through such avenues as local, state, and national professional organizations, presentations, and publications
Minimum Qualifications:  Graduate degree in library and information science (MLS, MLIS or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program or its equivalent Candidates will be evaluated on: Strong commitment to helping students learn and succeed ·  Some experience or interest in teaching undergraduate students ·  Ability to work effectively as a member of a team ·  Willingness to develop sound pedagogical practices in library instruction ·  Ability to foster meaningful collaboration with campus partners ·  Ability to harness technology as a tool for teaching and learning ·  Ability to provide excellent service in a culturally diverse academic environment ·  Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills This position holds non-tenure track faculty status (NTT) will be hired at the rank of Librarian I.  For information regarding title and rank, please review the MU Libraries’ Librarian and Archivist Governance Document found at: http://library.missouri.edu/staff/libguides/Governance%20Document_rev2019.pdf Salary negotiable from $51,500.
