Clemson University Libraries seeks an outgoing, collaborative, and creative librarian to guide and direct the services and collections at the Gunnin Architecture Library. The Emery A. Gunnin Architecture Library is a two-story facility located in Lee Hall on the Clemson campus and supports programs in art, architecture, city and regional planning, construction, landscape architecture, real estate development, and historic preservation. The collection includes over 36,000 circulating volumes, over 100 print periodicals, a media collection, and over 500 rare books. The Art & Architecture Librarian will play a key role in activities related to embedded librarianship, building relationships with faculty, providing opportunities for experiential learning for students, expanding engagement in state-of-the-art facilities, and supporting programs in Charleston, SC and Genoa, Italy. The Gunnin Architecture Library also manages the Clemson Design Center Library, located in Charleston, SC, to support the Center's award-winning service learning studios for undergraduates in architecture and landscape architecture and graduate students in historic preservation. This position will be critical to the Libraries' strategic growth as an R1 institution.

The Architecture Librarian provides research assistance, instruction, collection development, and outreach for the School of Architecture, Nieri Department of Construction, Development, and Planning, and the Department of Art. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty and departments to develop and support innovative programs and services. Library faculty are members of the academic community, with responsibilities in the areas of librarianship, scholarship, and service. This is a 12-month tenure-track faculty position in the Teaching, Learning, & Research division and works under the direction of the Head of Teaching & Learning Department.

Responsibilities include:

Director & Research Services

1.      Directs and develops the services, collections, and spaces of the Gunnin Architecture Library, in coordination with Clemson Libraries policies and procedures.

2.      Participates in the day-to-day work of the Gunnin Architecture Library; works collaboratively with staff and student employees to seek creative solutions to meet the needs of faculty and students in the programs served.

3.      Provides leadership and direction for two employees at the Gunnin Architecture Library and one part-time employee at the Clemson Design Center Library. Directly supervises the Library Manager at Gunnin.

4.      Serves as the primary liaison for programs in the School of Architecture, Nieri Department of Construction, Development and Planning, and Department of Art; develops strong relationships with faculty and administrators for these programs.

5.      Connects faculty and students with information and resources to support all aspects of the research lifecycle and builds professional relationships that facilitate research and student success.

6.      Collaborates with librarian teams to design and deliver services, instruction, and programming to support education and research in the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities.

7.      Provides general reference services (on-call and virtual) as well as in-depth research consultations in liaison areas. May include night and weekend virtual reference.

8.      Works collaboratively across the Libraries to support innovative initiatives including open access, research impact analysis, open educational resources, data services, etc.

9.      Support students and faculty at the Clemson Design Center in Charleston and the Zucker Family Graduate Education Center through in-person and virtual outreach, instruction, and research consultations. May require occasional travel to Charleston, SC.

10.  Engages in professional development such as attending conferences, workshops, and webinars related to job functions.

Instruction & Outreach

11.  Teaches course-related library instruction sessions both in person and online.

12.  Designs and develops learning outcomes, instructional materials, and assessments for classes.

13.  Creates and maintains library subject and course research guides (LibGuides) and other instructional tutorials and modules to help students, faculty, and staff effectively use library resources.

14.  Participates in instructional, outreach, and information literacy initiatives for general education.

Collection Development

15.  Builds and manages library collections at all locations to support curriculum and research for liaison departments, including updating collection policies, selecting print and electronic materials, and weeding.

16.  Works with other humanities librarians to determine shared collection purchases and priorities.

Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities

17.  Develops a focused program of high-quality research and creative accomplishments, consistent with professional responsibilities and the Libraries' mission and goals.

18.  Actively participates and demonstrates leadership in professional responsibilities that serve the Libraries, University, profession, and community.

Salary and Benefits

Faculty rank and minimum salary of $71,700 based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. Various medical plans, dental plans, and retirement plans are available. 18 days annual leave, 15 days sick leave, 13 paid holidays, and liberal professional development leave are provided. Library faculty receive an individual stipend for travel or other professional development activity.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

20.  ALA-accredited graduate degree in librarianship

21.  At least one year experience in one or more of the following areas: providing research services, instruction, collection development, or liaison services

22.  Undergraduate or advanced degree in art, architecture, or other relevant subject area.

23.  Demonstrated skills in oral, written, and interpersonal communication

24.  Demonstrated commitment to the promotion and enhancement of equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications:

25.  Two or more years providing library services for architecture, art, construction science, city planning and development, or historic preservation

26.  At least one year management or supervisory experience

27.  Familiarity with current and emerging technologies and trends in art/architecture librarianship
