Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Librarian

We are seeking a team member to help us educate the next generation of leaders and enable research that solves our most pressing problems. We are looking for a broad-minded, proactive, innovative, and user-centered problem solver ready to join our collaborative environment and transform library services. This position is based in a K-12 education program. Peabody College’s Teaching & Learning degree offers programs in Language, Literacy, and Culture, Justice and Diversity in Education, Mathematics and Science Education, and Learning and Design. Peabody College’s Teaching & Learning program includes noted faculty centering both research and practice. The Teaching & Learning program offers undergraduate through doctoral level degrees. Peabody Library’s primary user base is Peabody College. The librarians focus on delivering services to the departments within the college: the Department of Leadership, Policy, and Organizations, the Department of Psychology and Human Development, the Department of Special Education, and the Department of Teaching & Learning. They visit faculty and students in their offices, on-site, classrooms providing instruction and consultations that support research and coursework for undergraduates and graduates. The librarians work closely as a team, planning and delivering services to their constituents and making collections decisions together. Support staff manage the day-to-day operations of the library facility and assist with library outreach to our service community. The Peabody Library is one of nine campus libraries within the Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries. It is the primary library for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students in Peabody College. The library’s staff is made up of a library director, subject librarians, and support staff that provide outreach and support for Vanderbilt faculty, students, and university staff in the areas of research and teaching. Peabody Library functions as a distinct operational facility yet positioned within the larger structure of the Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries system. Supervisory Relationships:
  • This position supervises one or more student workers. This position reports administratively and functionally to the Director of Peabody Library.
Qualifications
  • Master of Library and Information Science or K-12 Education is required.
  • Background experience in education or K-12 school libraries is required.
  • Proactive interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with teaching information and digital literacy skills on a college campus.
  • Knowledge and/or interest in using emerging technologies to enhance the delivery of research instruction & information services.
  • Ability to evaluate and assess instruction and outreach.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Awareness of trends, diverse voices, and resources in education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional educational background experience in education (i.e., reading/literacy, language learning, educational technology).
  • Experience with curriculum materials, children’s and youth literature, school libraries, or K-12 teaching.
  • Familiarity using social media as a means of promoting library outreach.
  • Experience with online learning platforms and/or creating digital tutorials, videos, and research guides.
  • Knowledge or experience teaching undergraduates through graduate level students.
  • Experience supporting current research practices, open access, research impact, data visualization, digital scholarship, etc.
  • Active in professional organizations.
