The full salary range for this position is $75,800 to $149,600/yr. The budgeted salary range the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $76,000 to $112,700/yr. Learn more about the benefits of working at UC Brief Summary of Job Duties Staff across several departments within the library contribute toward building and providing responsible stewardship for unique, distinctive, and special collections, including digital and born-digital materials. Collection development and management, metadata creation and management, digitization, grant management, communication, and technical infrastructure activities supporting library collections are performed by staff in various departments. This position will provide important cross-departmental and cross-functional high-level support and coordination for all these activities across the library. Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Research Resources and Scholarly Communication, the incumbent coordinates digital collections-related initiatives in the Division of Research Resources and Scholarly Communication (DRRSC), facilitates the implementation of digital collection-related workflows and processes across departments and leads cross-functional working groups. This position leads efforts to conduct highly complex analyses across a broad spectrum of digital collections programs, policies, and initiatives. The incumbent works collaboratively with the Special Research Collections (SRC), Resource Acquisition and Discovery Services (ReADS), and the Digital Library Development (DLD) departments to address the responsible stewardship of hybrid, digital, and born-digital archival collections, including the processing of unique records and data sources, long term preservation, access, and discovery. Required Qualifications • Bachelor's Degree in related area or equivalent experience/training. • Knowledge of and the ability to articulate the overall steps involved in producing a digital library collection, beginning with the selection of materials and ending with the content discovery. • Knowledge of one or more functional areas involved in digital library initiatives, including but not necessarily limited to special collections and archives, digitization, metadata, technical services, preservation, or library systems. • Advanced Project Management skills. Special Conditions of Employment • Satisfactory conviction history background check • UCSB is a Tobacco-Free environment Job Functions/Percentage of Time/DutiesProject and Policy Analysis (50%): Develops and advocates solutions to digital collections initiatives issues in the DRRSC, including developing and administering new policies and processes. Participates in developing, evaluating, and implementing collection-related policies for digital and born-digital content in collaboration with necessary stakeholders. Coordinates cross-departmental procedures supporting the responsible stewardship of digital collections. Participates in the creation and adaptation of workflows, including digital curation and preservation of born-digital and digital content. Provides analyses for complex funding requirements for digital collections projects. Defines scope, resource requirements, and project costs; develops timelines; monitors progress and identifies areas for improvement. Coordinates and provides oversight and tracking of digital projects and initiatives; supports the DRRSC conformance with funded projects involving digital collections; contributes to funding proposals. Provides administrative support for digital projects and initiatives within the Division of RRSC, including existing and new digital collections initiatives and projects. Participates in policy, strategy, and planning committees and working groups. Chairs cross-functional working groups that organize and implement digital collections work with members representing various functional areas, including special collections and archives, metadata creation and management, digital scholarship, digitization, software solutions, collections care, digital preservation, access, and discovery. Researches and summarizes best practices in the field. Assesses and identifies ways to improve the cross-departmental workflow for the processing, metadata creation and management, discovery, access, use, accessibility, and long-term preservation. Collaborates with the Head of Special Collection Processing, the staff in the Digital Library Development, and library experts on developing workflow and processes for metadata and object files management in the Digital Assets Management system and the long-term preservation repository. Creates and maintains documentation and training materials for audiences with various technical skill levels. • Collaboration and Coordination (40%): Collaborates with partners to coordinate the development, implementation, and monitoring of digital collections initiatives and projects. Works closely with and coordinates the efforts of several units within the UCSB Library and beyond. Guides and directs digital initiatives planning with Directors of Special Research Collections (SRC), Resource Acquisition and Discovery Services (ReADS), and Digital Library Development (DLD) departments to ensure that digital library activities remain closely aligned with strategic library priorities. Leads and directs a wide variety of projects and follows through with all levels of staff and individuals inside and outside the organization. Works with key stakeholders across the library, including those responsible for content selection and management, technical services and metadata support, digitization, systems and software support, access and discovery, user assessment, Web development and design to ensure effective coordination of cross-departmental workflows and processes. Engages with curators, collection development and liaison librarians, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to ensure digital collections initiatives and projects remain aligned with institutional needs. In close cooperation with the library stakeholders and the Communications & Marketing Manager, develops and executes the digital collections communication plans to promote digital collections. Fosters close and productive relationships with campus and UC partners who support or contribute special collections content, including the UCSB Art, Design & Architecture Museum, California Digital Library (CDL), and Special Collections units at other UCs. • Supervision (5%): May lead a team of students, and interns. Hires, trains, directs and evaluates student assistants supporting born-digital and digital collections initiatives and projects. Reconciles student time cards via an electronic timekeeping system. • Professional and Engagement Development (5%): Participate in professional development and service activities that contribute to the organization. Learns and adopts new technologies and skills in a supportive but largely self-directed environment. Attends regular departmental and divisional meetings. Participates in library and system-wide committees, as appropriate.
