Cataloging and Digital Projects Librarian

- Serves as the metadata specialist for the majority of the Libraries’ CONTENTdm digital projects
- Along with the department head, serves on the project team for each CONTENTdm digital project, making recommendations about the timeframe, metadata elements, and controlled vocabulary to be used
- Collaborates with other departmental staff assigned to work on CONTENTdm projects, promoting consistency, and assists with training as requested
- Manages remediation to ensure that the metadata for older digital collections is updated to current practice
- Creates metadata for University of Arkansas Department of Music concert recordings hosted in ScholarWorks
- Harvests metadata for electronic theses and dissertations from ScholarWorks and converts it to MARC for uploading to WorldCat and Alma
- Creates metadata for other types of digital projects and collections as needed
- Together with the department head, serves as a metadata consultant for other Libraries’ departments, including responding to requests about metadata standards and procedures, controlled vocabulary, and crosswalking metadata from one platform to another
- Performs original and complex copy cataloging of media materials, including scores, sound recordings, and video recordings, in accordance with local and national standards (RDA, Library of Congress Program for Cooperative Cataloging Policy Statements, MLA best practices, etc.)
- Maintains the Libraries’ application profile, the CONTENTdm Cookbook, and creates and maintains cataloging procedures for assigned formats
- Stays informed of evolving cataloging and metadata trends, changes in best practices and standards, new software applications, and local technology changes
- Takes part in professional development activities, including attending workshops, webinars, and conferences, to augment existing training and skills
- Serves on the Content Services leadership team
- Masters in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent
- Demonstrated relevant experience creating metadata for digital materials using non-MARC metadata standards such as Dublin Core, MODS, or EAD
- At least one year of demonstrated relevant experience cataloging library materials, including original cataloging and applying controlled vocabulary
- Demonstrated experience using MARC21, RDA/AACR2, Library of Congress (LC) Subject Headings, and classification schemes, such as LCC
- Demonstrated experience with OCLC Connexion and the technical services related functions of an integrated library system
- More than one year of relevant professional experience with cataloging and authority work in a mid- to large size academic or research library, or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience with music or media cataloging
- Demonstrated experience using Ex Libris’ Alma-Primo ILS
- Demonstrated experience with digital repository systems/software such as CONTENTdm or Digital Commons
- Demonstrated experience with documenting technical processes
- Familiarity with cataloging tools like Cataloger's Desktop, RDA Toolkit, and Classification Web
- Knowledge of tools for manipulating bibliographic data such as MarcEdit, OpenRefine, XSLT, or Oxygen
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills including meeting project deadlines
- Ability to work independently and to collaborate with others
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Bibliographic knowledge of one or more non-English language
- Working knowledge of word processing software and spreadsheets
