The Coordinator of Collection Strategies is a senior position that provides leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the development and management of the River Campus Libraries' (RCL) collections within the evolving environment of scholarly communication. S/he ensures the most effective use of the River Campus Libraries' materials budget to support the teaching and research mission of the University, and provides effective and consistent communications with campus constituencies regarding the library's strategies and programs for collection development and management. Working within a collaborative and service-oriented environment, s/he sets standards and oversees training for collections-related functions for librarians within the context of their overall responsibilities, implementing plans, policies, procedures, and strategies as part of an effective collection development and management operation. The Coordinator collaborates with Acquisitions staff, with the RCL Strategic Leadership Team, and with library financial and IT staff to ensure appropriate budget forecasting and planning. S/he works closely with members of RCL's Strategic Leadership Team to ensure that RCL's collection strategies support future modes of scholarly communication (including open access), working with the Assistant Dean for Information Technology, Research, and Digital Scholarship to develop strategies to support new models of scholarly publishing both locally and in the broader sphere of higher education and with the Assistant Dean, Academic Engagement to coordinate and engage with outreach librarian activities pertaining to collections and scholarly communications. The incumbent will report directly to the Associate Dean for Scholarly Resource Management.

Areas of Responsibility
30% - Leadership: Provides leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the development and management of River Campus Libraries' collections within the evolving environment of scholarly communication              
*    Develops and communicates policies and strategies to lead the River Campus Libraries' collection development and management program, which includes purchasing/licensing of resources, review and management of existing print and electronic collections, overseeing shared collection agreements (retention, etc.), and supporting emerging open access opportunities
*    Applies knowledge of and data about the university's curricula and research to build collections that support the teaching, research and strategic priorities of the university community
*    Oversees annual review of material funds allocation using data-driven processes in consultation with the RCL Strategic Leadership Team, Head of Acquisitions, and collections librarians
*    Works closely with the Assistant Dean for Information Technology, Research, and Digital Scholarship to develop strategies to support new models for scholarly communication and publishing that will provide broad access to the work of faculty and students at the university
*    Negotiates licenses and contracts for electronic resources on behalf of RCL and other university libraries
*    Stays abreast with trends and developments pertaining to collections in research libraries, publishing, and the broader ecosystem of scholarly communications

30% - Coordination:   Coordinates and directs the collections-related work of librarians who have responsibilities for collection development and management in support of one or more academic disciplines. Provides training and support for collections librarians in strategically-focused collection development/management principles and processes
*    Works with collections librarians to develop and implement well-informed collection development, assessment and management strategies for their assigned disciplines
*    Provides guidance for collection librarians in communicating with academic departments about collection-related issues, including open access
*    Oversees the purchasing and licensing of large and/or interdisciplinary resources 
*    Plans joint purchases with other UR libraries (medical library, music library) and with other institutions as appropriate
*    Participates with academic departments and library colleagues in accreditation studies of UR academic departments
*    Develops librarians' competencies in communicating with faculty and others about new models for scholarly communication and publishing, such as open access

30% - Collaboration: Works collaboratively with others within RCL, across the University, and within the broader higher education community, to advance strategic priorities. Works closely with the Head of Acquisitions to provide oversight and management for the RCL materials budget, which includes collection-related endowments and special funds as well as allocated funds Conducts assessments and evaluations of budget expenditures; prepares regular budget projections and reports
*    Collaborates with library data analysts to develop, compile, and disseminate analytical reports to enable data-driven assessment and evidence-based decision-making about RCL collections
*    Collaborates with Stacks Supervisor to initiate relocations of physical collections within River Campus Libraries locations and the library Annex
*    Participates in consortial activities engaged with negotiating shared licenses, creating and expanding access to shared collections, and with investigating sustainable shared-print collections (e.g. EAST)
*    Collaborates with vendors and Head of Acquisitions to ensure the effectiveness of automated selection programs


10% - Miscellaneous Duties: Maintains currency with library functions, resources, practices and procedures
*    Participates in and contributes towards RCL and University committees, meetings, and events
*    Contributes to the profession through active participation in conferences, associations, research, writing, etc.
*    Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications and Competencies:
Minimum Qualifications:
*    Master's Degree in the field of library and information science from an ALA-accredited institution
*    Minimum seven years' experience in an academic library environment, including five years in a leadership role demonstrating increasing responsibility in a research, technology-intensive library or information-intensive environment
*    Demonstrated competency in analysis, budgeting and planning, assessment and evaluation of library collections
*    Proven evidence of strong communication and interpersonal skills, both orally and in writing
*    Demonstrated organizational skills in a broad range of situations
*    Strong commitment to building and nurturing positive relationships among users and colleagues with a proven ability to work in a collaborative environment
*    Commitment to professional development and service
*    Knowledge and understanding of 21st century collections issues for research libraries, emerging practices, standards, and trends relating to collection development and management in an academic or research library environment
*    Demonstrated knowledge of trends in scholarly communication, publishing, and research
*    Familiarity with e-resource licensing and copyright issues
*    Understanding of the interdependence of electronic and traditional resources and the balance between local ownership and external access
*    Evidence of ability to develop strategy and lead change across an organization

Desired Qualifications:
*    Familiarity with project management skills
*    A second advanced degree
*    Experience working in a research library
