Gary Roebuck

Gary Roebuck is deputy executive director of ARL. Appointed to this position in January 2021, he leads the Association’s Finance and Administration functions as well as leading the staff in Action Plan program management. He is also the staff lead to the Code of Conduct Committee.

Before becoming deputy executive director, Gary served as associate executive director for Finance and Administration, overseeing the day-to-day operations of ARL as well as information technology, fiscal, and human resource management. Prior to that, he served as director of information technology, managing IT support for ARL staff as well as ongoing development of various information systems hosted by ARL. He started at ARL as technical operations manager for Assessment, where he managed the redesign and expansion of the StatsQUAL® system encompassing LibQUAL+®, DigiQUAL®, MINES for Libraries®, ARL Statistics®, ClimateQUAL®, and other library assessment tools.

Prior to joining ARL in 2007, Gary served as manager of development operations at the National Park Foundation where he managed all aspects of gift processing, database management, reporting, and prospect and donor research. Earlier in his career, he held positions at Blackbaud Inc. as a fundraising systems consultant and Chicago’s Merit School of Music as director of operations.

Gary earned a BM and performance certificate in vocal performance from the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music, an MS in information systems from DePaul University in Chicago, and an MPA concentrating in public and nonprofit management from the University of Baltimore. He earned the certified association executive (CAE) designation from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) in 2017 and was selected as part the 2019–2021 class of ASAE’s Diversity Executive Leadership Program (DELP).
