  • Allowing free speech versus not wanting to allow hateful speech
  • Finding the right vocabulary to discuss sensitive issues (race, sexuality, etc.) and how to get past discomfort
  • Managing pushback from staff, faculty, students, and alumni who expect the library to be “neutral”
  • Supporting social justice movements on campus
  • Dealing with hiring bias in search committees
  • Working with state and local government (for public universities)
  • Handling bias in fund-raising
  • Identifying ways that bias creeps into our work (subject headings, etc.)
