ARL Views Blog Editorial Policy

Last Updated on September 6, 2024, 3:25 pm ET

The ARL Views blog features short, timely posts of interest to the research library and archives community that focus on the Association’s Action Plan and show how research libraries are acting on our vision, mission, and values.

The audience for ARL Views is current and future decision-makers in research libraries and archives and their home institutions as well as policy and practice partners in the research enterprise.

Editorial Process

The ARL Views editorial staff consider proposed blog posts from ARL staff, current and former ARL fellows and scholars, ARL member representatives and their employees, and members of the broader research and higher education community. The editorial staff approve and edit the submissions.

ARL is a member of the Crossref community. Effective August 2023, each blog post will receive a unique digital object identifier (DOI). Authors are encouraged to share their ORCID IDs with ARL to include in the DOI metadata.

Author Guidelines

Submissions for ARL Views are welcomed in a variety of lengths. We generally suggest 500–1,500 words as a ballpark figure.

The editors of ARL Views accept articles in Google Docs or Microsoft Word format.

Illustrations accompanying the text are eagerly welcomed. Please do not embed images in the text; include markers in the text for placement. Captions for illustrations should be included in a separate list at the end of the blog post document. Digital images (600 pixels wide x 450 pixels high at 72 dpi) will be required for publication. If you include charts or graphs, please also submit the data tables that underlie them. Please be sure to include relevant licensing information.

Editors of ARL Views use the latest edition of The Chicago Manual of Style as the standard of style.

No author fees are charged for manuscript processing and/or publishing in ARL Views. Publication of ARL Views is fully supported by the Association of Research Libraries.

ARL Views will occasionally consider an article that has been published previously in a similar form.
